Speaking and Listening

Reflection and Grade Defense

Speaking and Listening is a standard that I improved greatly in both semesters. During
the first semester, it was through my book talk and introductory speech (check eportfolio) and
during the second semester it was through the variety of Socratic seminars. My number one area
of growth has been my ability to initiate and participate in a variety of discussions (Speaking and
Listening Comprehension and Collaboration #1). During the Socratic seminars, I received
mastery on every part of each of the three. However, I still improved because I could feel myself
talking more and contributing more questions and responses.
Therefore, I believe I deserve an A grade this semester for Speaking and Listening. I
have had a large variety for things to speak and listen to especially during the Socratic seminars.
Because I did so well during the Socratic seminars (check reflection and grade defense) I feel
like an A is well deserved.
Future Goals
The biggest area of improvement I have in the Speaking and Listening category is my
ability to propel conversations. (Speaking and Listening Comprehension and Collaboration #4). I
am very good at responding but I feel like I need to improve my ability to post thoughtful
questions. I hope to improve this for next year by spending more time coming up with thoughtful
questions that can really propel the conversation.
