Lesson Topic: Unreal/ Surreal.

Recent Prior Experience (specific relevant concepts, skills and values the school students have experienced prior to this lesson):
- Students have previously touched on surrealism
- Have prior knowledge of what art movements are (styles)
- Have basic understanding/ comprehension of surrealism terms.
- This will link to previous lesson where students touched on what surrealism is and basic understanding.

By the end of this lesson, the students will:
- Be able to answer the question What is surrealism?
and Who was salvador Dali?
- Be able to confidently identify specific characteristics
of surrealism and a surrealist artwork.
- Demonstrates knowledge of which framework the art
movement is from. (Conceptual).
- Applies acquired knowledge about surrealism in a
practical sense through a replication artwork using
graphite.

Surrealism and Salvador Dali.
- T will get students to read out points on surrealism and
question Ss on their understanding of each point.
- T will then change slide to Salvador Dali and explain that
the students will have to replicate one of his paintings: The
Persistence of Memory in the second half of the double
period.
- T will then praise Ss for their attention and inclusion in the
class discussion before moving on to a worksheet activity.

Practical Drawing
Use of technical drawing skills.

30 min

class to ensure everyone not only completes the work but


has a thorough understanding of the topic.
T sets a time allocation of 10 min for Ss to complete the
work sheet independently with mild guidance as T walks
around the room ensuring students are on task and
understanding of questions.
T then warns Ss of time constraints and allows a final
minute for them to complete the worksheet
T then asks Ss to raise their hand if they would like the
share their answers to Q1,2and so forth with the class.
T constantly praises students for their efforts, and assists
those who incorrectly answererd questions with positive
reinforcement and encouragement.
T then praises entire class for their participation and begins
to instruct students of the next task: Practical Drawing.
T explains that students will need to replicate one of
Salvador Dalis artworks The Persistence Of Memory in
their VAPDS using only lead pencil.
T then gives a visual demonstration of how Ss should
divide their pages in order to gain an understanding of
foreground and background.
T sets the expectations of the task to Ss and allows them to
begin their practical drawing independently.
T walks around the room constantly assisting students and
their understanding of perception and creation of depth in a
drawing as well as ensuring students are on task
T then rewards Ss with Radio time for being productive
and quiet.

CLOSURE
Overall understanding of the topic and a
related artist.
Displays an adequate understanding of Surrealism
and Salvador Dalis artworks, as well as how to use
this knowledge in a practical sense.

T reminds Ss of how much time they have left and that they should
be finishing off their artworks.
T finalises the practical drawing and asks Ss to label their drawings.
T then assigns one S to collect everyones artworks and place them
in their required location.
T then raises hand to regain the attention of class and praises them
for their immediate compliance.
T then quizzes Ss on their newly acquired knowledge of the topic
and asks Ss to tell T at least three things they have learnt today.
T then hands out merit awards to the top three students for both
