Scope

Forthisprojectwewillbemakingabookcoverfrontandback,fivepiecesofarttobe
withinthebook,amovietrailer,andamagazinead.Tocreatethebookcoverwewillbe
usingAdobeIllustrator,ona5inby7inartboard,forboththefrontandback.Wehave
anillusionisticbackgroundthatlooksbothflatandthreedimensional,thecolorsthat
wereusedareredandbluewithaopacityof52%.Nearthebottomithasalittlesketch
ofthebuildingthattheflatlanderslivedinalongwithaflatlander.Thetitlewasdrawnon
withthepaintbrushtoolinblack,withalittlequoterightbelowthemaintitle.Tomake
thefivepiecesofartworkweusedAdobeIllustratorona3inby5in.Forthefirstart
piece,Iusedadarkpurplecolorforthebackgroundandaboutaninchbelowthetop
rightcornerIputthespacespherecomingoutsometypeofportal.Tocreatethespace
sphereIjustusedthecircletool,usedablackcolorforhisbodycolorandtomakehim
lookroundIusedthemeshtoolandaddedwhites,lightergrays,anddarkgrays.Idid
thesamethingtocreatehiseyes,twodarkbluecircles,excepttomaketheseappear
roundedIusedjustdarkswiththemeshtool,andaddedthethewhiteglarewithinthe
blackdots.ForthespacespheresmouthIusedthepentoolandcreatedaopenmouth
smilethatispink,anduseddarkpinkswithinthemouthtogiveittheappearancethatit
hassomethingfartherback,likehisthroat.FortheflatlanderIjustusedtherectangle
tool,madeitlightblueandgavehimdarkbluespotsusingthemeshtool,Ididthe
samethingwithhiseyesasIdidwiththespacesphere,exceptwithwhiteandlight
colorswiththemeshtool,gavehimasomewhatterrifiedfaceusingthepentool.Forthe
secondartpieceIdidadarkbluebackgroundandwiththemeshtooladdedfourlight
bluesandawhitecenter,atthecenterIcreatedawhitecubewiththerectangletooland

usedtheeffectof3D,allaroundthecubewerethesebluesmallersquaresthatwere
darkandlightshades,twostreakswentfromthecube.ForthethirdartpieceIjustputa
bluegraybackgroundwithlittlesharppiecedshapesatsomepartsoftheedge,thatare
darkandlightblues.Atthebottomandtoptherearetheseswirlypiecesthatarelight
blueandwhite,Iaddedthewhiteusingthemeshtoolandcreatedtheshapeswiththe
pentool.Thefourthartpiecehasadarksalmonpinkwithlightblueanddarkredadded
bythemeshtool.WiththepaintbrushtoolIaddedlinestomakeitlookliketheywere
goingthroughacanyon,forthespacesphereandtheflatlanderIjustcopiedandpasted
fromthefirstartwork.Thelastpieceofartworkwasmadewithadarkbluebackground
withthedifferenttypesofflatlanders,trianglesaroundtheedges,withthekininthe
centerandmoretrianglesaroundhim.ThemovietrailerwasmadeonAdobeFlash
ProfessionalCS5,startingatalargeimageoftheflatlandershouses,thenzoominginto
oneofthehouses.Asitzoomsinwewillseeasquareandalittlehexagoninaroom,
asitgetscloserthehexagonwillbethrowingalittletantrum,aboutnotbeingabletogo
aroundtheshapeinfrontofher,asthetrailercontinuesthesquaregoestoworkand
whenheisatworkacircularshapestartstoglowandanobjectcomesfromit,aspace
sphere.Thespacespheretakesthesquareonadventurestothespacelad,whichis
threedimensional.Whenthetrianglesandcirclesfindouttheygoafterthesquareand
thesphere,andthelittlegirlhexagontagsalong,andtheadventurecontinues.The
magazineadwascreatedonAdobeIllustratorwithabluebackgroundaradialgradient
ofbluecenterandblackedges.Ithasabunchoftexts,twoflatlanders,andaspace
spherethatisgreen.
