SCHOOL INFORMATION
EMERGENCY CLOSING OF SCHOOLS

Occasionally, hazardous weather conditions or other issues may necessitate the altering of arrival and dismissal times, or the closing of schools for the day. In these
circumstances, families will be notified via our automated telephone Parent Notification
system. Additionally, all information will be posted on the districts website
www.msd.k12.ny.us and sent to subscribers of the districts e-mail center. The
following radio and TV stations will also be notified of any closing event:
WALK (97.5 FM), WBAB (102.3 FM), WBLI (106.1 FM), and LI News Channel 12.

EMERGENCY CLOSING MAKE-UP DAYS SCHEDULE

If school is closed for emergency reasons, then make-up days will be scheduled in
the following order:
1 Make-Up Day - School will be open on May 26
2 Make-Up Days - School will be open on May 22
The Board of Education reserves the right to revise the calendar if emergency school
closings during the year require additional teaching days.

DELAYED SCHOOL OPENING

Sometimes weather conditions are such that a delayed opening is preferable to closing schools for the whole day. On these days, schools will open on a one or two hour
delay. Students will be picked up at their regular bus stops one or two hours later than
the normal schedule. All out of district school openings will be delayed by one or two
hours, including private, parochial and occupational education programs.
The following programs will be cancelled entirely when a delayed opening is
announced. Students should NOT report to these programs:
YMCA Child Care (before school)
All scheduled field trips
All before school programs
Dismissal from school will be at the regular time. Parents are reminded to check the
District website www.msd.k12.ny.us for additional information about delayed openings.

MESSAGES FOR CHILDREN AND TEACHERS

Children may not be called to the telephone nor messages taken for them except in
cases of emergency. Teachers may not be called to the telephone, however messages
may be left with the General Office.

PARENT CONFERENCES AND VISITS

It is essential that those who most directly influence the student's academic and social
life and development - parents and teachers - develop a harmonious partnership on
behalf of the youngster. To help establish and nurture this partnership, the
Massapequa School District strongly supports the practice of individual parent-teacher
conferences. In addition, parents are encouraged to request a conference with the
childs teacher, instructional team and/or guidance counselor to discuss any concerns.
Each fall, parent-teacher conferences are held in the elementary schools. Detailed
information regarding these conferences will be provided from the home school.
Parents of students in the middle and high schools may arrange for conferences before
and after school. While parents are welcomed and encouraged to visit their childs
school, arrangements must be made in advance through the principal's office.

SCHOOL PLAYGROUNDS

Residents are welcome to use school playgrounds and fields when not in use by the
district or community groups that have arranged for their use. Please help us keep our
fields in top condition by using trash receptacles and adhering to information posted at
each field. Contact the Athletics & Recreation Office at 308-5080 for information on
reserving fields for Massapequa community groups.

PUBLIC INFORMATION

In an ongoing effort to inform residents of programs, policies, and special events, the
District issues news releases to local newspapers and publishes the official newsletter
Insight several times during the school year. Beginning summer 2013, Insight will only
be produced in electronic format and made available on the districts website. With the
exception of the Budget edition of Insight, print copies will no longer be produced or
mailed. The District website, www.msd.k12.ny.us, is in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days
a week. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the Districts E-News service, whereby subscribers receive brief e-mail notifications, announcements, and reminders. Visit
the website and click on E-mail Center for more information. Parents are also provided telephone notification for emergencies and other important school news via our
Parent Notification System.

PESTICIDE NOTIFICATION

New York State Education Law Section 409-H, effective July 1, 2001, requires all public and nonpublic elementary and secondary schools to provide written notification to all
persons in parental relation, faculty, and staff regarding the potential use of pesticides
periodically throughout the school year. In accordance with this law, the Massapequa
School District is required to maintain a list of persons in parental relation, faculty, and
staff who wish to receive 48 hour prior written notification of certain pesticide applications.
If you wish to register to receive 48 hour prior notification of any pesticide application
that is scheduled for your school, please phone (308-5040) or write to Facilities
Department, Massapequa UFSD, 4925 Merrick Road, Massapequa, NY 11758.

DISTRICT POLICIES
THE DIGNITY ACT
The Dignity Act was signed into law on September 13, 2010 and took effect on July 1,
2012. This legislation amended State Education Law by creating a new Article 2 Dignity for All Students. The Dignity Act also amended Section 801-a of New York State
Education Law regarding instruction in civility, citizenship, and character education by
expanding the concepts of tolerance, respect for others and dignity to include: an
awareness and sensitivity in the relations of people, including but not limited to, different races, weights, national origins, ethnic groups, religions, religious practices, mental or physical abilities, sexual orientations, gender identity, and sexes. The Dignity Act
further amended Section 2801 of the Education Law by requiring Boards of Education
to include language addressing the Dignity Act in their codes of conduct, which the
Massapequa School District has done. The complete Code of Conduct is available on
the District website www.msd.k12.ny.us/codeofconduct and at each school upon
request.
No student shall be subjected to harassment by employees or students on school property or at a school function; nor shall any student be subjected to discrimination based
on a persons actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender (including gender identity
or expression), or sex by school employees or students on school property or at a
school function.
*Please refer to the Dignity Act section on the district website for further information and
resources.

Dignity Act Coordinators are expected to:

1. Promote a safe, orderly and stimulating school environment supporting active teaching and learning for all students regardless of actual or perceived race, color, weight,
national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation,
gender or sex.
2. Identify curricular resources that support infusing civility in classroom instruction and
classroom management; and provide guidance to staff as to how to access and implement those resources.
3. Be responsible to monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of the Districts bullying prevention efforts.
4. Address issues of harassment or any situation that threatens the emotional or physical health or safety of any student, school employee, or any person who is unlawfully
on school property or at a school function.

CODE OF CONDUCT
The Board of Education is committed to providing a safe and orderly school environment in which students are able to receive and District personnel are able to deliver quality educational services without disruption or interference. Responsible behavior by students, school and District personnel, parents, and other visitors is essential to achieving this goal. The District has a long-standing set of expectations based on the principles of civility, mutual respect, citizenship, character, tolerance, honesty, and integrity
for conduct on school property and at school functions. The information presented here represents a brief overview of the Massapequa School District Code of Conduct. It
is not intended to serve as a substitute for the complete Code of Conduct, which is available on the District website www.msd.k12.ny.us/codeofconduct and at each school
building upon request. Parents and students are urged to read the complete Code of Conduct and to bring all questions to the attention of our professional staff. All students will be held responsible for the rules, policies, and procedures as described in the complete version of the Code of Conduct. The Board of Education expects all students to conduct themselves in an appropriate and respectful manner with regard to the rights and welfare of other students, District personnel, and other members of the
school community, and in the use of school facilities and equipment. Students may be subject to disciplinary action when they engage in conduct that is disorderly, insubordinate, disruptive, or violent, conduct that endangers the safety, morals, health, or welfare of others, misconduct on a school bus or at a school bus stop, bullying or any form
of academic misconduct. Specific details about prohibited student conduct and possible disciplinary actions may be found in the Code of Conduct which has been revised and
updated to include all aspects of the Dignity Act.

ATTENDANCE

The Board of Education recognizes that regular school attendance is an important component of academic success. Accordingly, the Board has adopted a comprehensive
attendance policy, which is available upon request at each school building, the District
Office, and on the District website. Below is a brief summary of this policy, which
emphasizes specific aspects of the role parents play in student attendance. For more
information, please review the policy in its entirety or contact your home school.
Excused absences/tardiness/early departures include the following:
personal illness
illness or death in the family
impassable roads or weather
religious observance
quarantine
required court appearances
scheduled medical treatments/appointments
college visits pre-approved by the principal or his/her designee
cooperative work programs pre-approved by the principal or his/her designee
military obligations
such other reasons as may be approved by the principal or his/her designee
All other absences/tardiness/early departures (e.g., class cuts, unverified absences
and tardiness, unapproved early leaves) are considered unexcused.
All absences/tardiness/early departures must be accounted for. It is the
parent/guardian's responsibility to communicate with the school, either verbally or in
writing, to verify a student absence.
Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes. Consistent with the importance
of classroom participation, any absence from class that is not made up may result in
the loss of points from the student's class participation grade for the marking period.
Only those students with excused absences will be given the opportunity to make up a
test and/or turn in a late assignment for inclusion in the calculation of the academic performance portion of their grade. Make-up opportunities must be completed by a date
specified by the student's teacher for the class in question.
Family-Oriented Unexcused Absences
The District stresses academic rigor and expects full-day attendance by all students.
The school calendar provides ample opportunity for family vacations and/or family-oriented absences, both during the summer and at specific dates during the school year.
Absences due to family-oriented activities undermine the ethos of academic commitment and will disadvantage the student, as work will be interrupted.
Therefore, absences/tardiness/early departures due to vacations and/or other activities
arranged by the parent/guardian that do not meet the criteria for excused as specified
in Board policy 5100 are considered unexcused. Consistent with Board of Education

policy, such unexcused absences will result in the loss of points from the student's class
participation grade and the student will not be provided the opportunity to make up work
missed for academic credit.
Appeals
An appeal regarding the determination of an absence as excused or unexcused may
be made in writing by the parent/guardian to the building principal or his/her designee
within thirty (30) days of the absence in question.
Any student who misses a class for any reason is expected upon his/her return to consult with his/her teachers regarding missed work. While unexcused absences will not
afford a student the opportunity to make up missed work for grading purposes, students
must be mindful that missed work will have a direct effect on their overall success in the
class and their understanding of the curriculum.

STUDENT DRESS CODE

All students are expected to give proper attention to personal cleanliness and to dress
appropriately for school and school functions. Students and their parents have the primary responsibility for acceptable student dress and appearance. Teachers and all
other district personnel should exemplify and reinforce acceptable student dress and
help students develop an understanding of appropriate appearance in the school setting.
A students dress, grooming and appearance, including hair style/color, jewelry, makeup, and nails, shall:
1. Be safe, appropriate and not disrupt or interfere with the educational
process.
2. Recognize that extremely brief garments, plunging necklines (front and/or
back) and see-through garments are not appropriate.
3. Ensure that underwear and midriffs are completely covered with outer
clothing.
4. Include footwear at all times. Footwear that is a safety hazard including
footwear with wheels, will not be allowed.
5. Not include the wearing of hats in the classroom except for medical or
religious purposes for students grades K-8.
6. Not include items that are vulgar, obscene, suggestive, libelous, or
denigrate others on account of race, color, religion, creed, national origin,
gender, sexual orientation or disability.
7. Not promote and/or endorse the use of alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs
and/or encourage other illegal or violent activities. This includes, but is not
limited to, clothing, jewelry, hats, emblems, and badges that, by virtue of
color, arrangement, trademark, or attribute, are associated with or denotes
membership in or affiliation with any group or organization that promotes
illegal behavior or behavior that is a violation of the Districts Code of Conduct.
Students who violate the student dress code shall be required to modify their
appearance by covering or removing the offending item, and if necessary or practical,
replacing it with an acceptable item. Any student who refuses to do so shall be subject
to discipline, up to and including in-school suspension for the day. Any student who
repeatedly fails to comply with the dress code shall be subject to further discipline, up
to and including out of school suspension.

RELEASE OF DIRECTORY INFORMATION

In accordance with the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, unless
objection to any of the specific items in the following "directory information" is submitted in writing by parents, legal guardians, or those students over the age of 18 years,
the Massapequa School District herewith gives notice of intention to provide, release or
publish in the District Newsletter Insight, on the Districts website and in other District
publications; school or student newspapers; athletic programs; musical, theatrical or
award programs; news releases and school-related organizations; any or all of the following directory information pertaining to students as may be appropriate under the circumstances: student's name, parent's name, address, telephone listing, photograph,
digital image, video broadcast, sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams,
dates of attendance, degrees and awards received and the most recent, previous educational agency or institution attended by the student. Under the regulations of this act,
parents, guardians, or students over the age of 18 who do not desire the release of any
of the above directory information must make a specific request in writing to the building principal. Failure to make such request shall be deemed consent to release, provide or publish directory information during the current school year.

STUDENT RECORDS

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law designed to
protect the privacy of student records. The law and corresponding Board of Education
Policy affords parents and students over 18 years of age (referred to in the law as "eligible students") the following rights:
The right to inspect and review the student's education records within 30 days
of the day the district receives a request for access.
The right to request the amendment of the student's education records that the
parent or eligible student believes are inaccurate or misleading.
The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information
contained in the student's education records, except to the extent that FERPA
authorizes disclosure without consent.
The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning
alleged failures by the district to comply with the requirements of FERPA.
Questions or inquiries regarding student records should be addressed with the administrative team at your child's school.

Physicals/Screenings

HEALTH SERVICES

Physical examinations are required by New York State Education Law for all newly
enrolled students in kindergarten, second, fourth, seventh and tenth grades, and when
necessary for special education evaluations. The examination may be conducted by
either the family physician or the school physician. A sports physical is required before
a student may participate in any interscholastic sport or sports practice. The official
school form must be used. Physical examinations for fall sports are offered to athletes
in school during the month of May and prior to each sports season. The physical is performed by the school physician unless the parent requests a private examination. No

student may participate without the approval of the school medical officer. Every student in the Massapequa Schools receives a visual acuity test annually and an auditory sweep test is conducted annually until grade 7 and again in grade 10. Scoliosis
screening of the spine is done annually for all students in grades 5-9. Students in
grades 4, 7, and 10 also have their blood pressure taken if it is not recorded by their
private physicians. In cases where a school health examination reveals a potential
problem, parents are notified of the need for further study by the family physician or
dentist and forms are sent to parents to be filled out by the doctor so that the necessary adjustments may be made in the school program. Please refer to our website
under Health Services & Wellness for additional information.
Medication in School
Before any medication may be administered to or by any student during school hours,
the Board requires a written request by the parent and a written order by the prescribing physician. Specific forms are available through the nurse's office at each school
regarding the administration of medication in school, as well as student self-direction
and administration of medication.
Immunization
Each student must present a record of immunization upon registration signed by a doctor or certified by a clinic. Students will not be permitted to attend classes without proper immunization as determined by New York State Public Health Law, Education Law,
and New York Codes, Rules and Regulations.
Concussions/Head Injuries
As per the New York State Education Department, any student who exhibits signs,
symptoms or behaviors consistent with a concussion (such as loss of consciousness,
headaches, dizziness, confusion or balance problems) shall not return to Physical
Education or Athletics until cleared by the school medical officer (School District
Physician).

HOMEWORK

In an effort to provide an instructional program that meets the varying needs of all students, it is the policy of the Massapequa Public Schools to assign homework beyond
the regular school day. Properly designed homework, carefully planned and geared to
the development of the individual student, plays an important role in helping students
to work independently, practice the skills that have been taught, expose students to
content before it is formally taught, and complete projects and research that extend the
classroom learning experience. Parents can be invaluable partners in the process by
assisting in locating appropriate materials, sharing knowledge and monitoring schoolwork progress. Parents should also provide an atmosphere conducive to work at
home, setting aside a specific place for homework that is well lit and ventilated and free
from distractions and noise. While self-direction is one of the major goals of homework,
it is important for parents to be available to provide guidance and oversight.

ABSENCE NOTIFICATION

The Districts automated telephone notification system will contact parents when their
child is noted as having an unverified absence. Attendance is recorded once daily in
elementary and each class period in secondary. When a call is received, parents
should follow the directions given in order to verify their childs absence.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

The Massapequa School District has developed an Emergency Management Plan in

compliance with New York State Education Department Commissioner's Regulations.
The plan is designed to help staff and emergency response officials manage emergency situations involving the District. Building-level emergency response plans have
been developed for each school through the collaborative efforts of staff, parents, police
and fire department officials with student and staff safety as the primary concern.
Parents can obtain information about emergency situations within the District from the
District website www.msd.k12.ny.us and PTA representatives.

NCLB NOTIFICATION

The Massapequa Schools take great pride in the quality of our staff and work closely
with our licensed faculty to ensure they all meet certification requirements and continue to grow in their field. Although the district remains diligent in this area, parents may
also, as per the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, request information concerning the
professional qualifications of their child's classroom teachers.
Parental requests to view professional certification status and degrees held by their
child's classroom teachers will be fulfilled in accordance with the Freedom of
Information Law, and may be directed to: Public Information Officer, Massapequa
Public Schools, 4925 Merrick Road, Massapequa, NY 11758

SEX OFFENDER INFORMATION

As a result of Megan's Law legislation, the district will occasionally receive information
from the Nassau County Police Department about registered sex offenders who reside
within school district boundaries. This information is maintained in a manual of all sex
offender notifications received, which is available to community residents at the district
central offices during regular business hours.
The district also provides easy access to the Parents for Megan's Law (PFML) e-mail
notification system through our website. Subscribers to this system are automatically
notified via e-mail of new registrants to the NY State Sex Offender's Registry and directed to the PFML website where they can access the on-line Registry for New York, as
well as other states. Residents without home Internet access may utilize this system
by means of the Massapequa Public Libraries.
Please visit www.msd.k12.ny.us/sexoffender for more information about sex offender
notifications and the PFML e-mail notification system.

STUDENT SERVICES AND PROGRAMS

STUDENT ACTIVITIES

A wide range of planned activities taking place outside of regular school hours is available to students according to individual interests and abilities, including sports,
debates, plays, clubs, musical events, social events, and a student government.
Notices and announcements in each school provide information about the many specific activities available. Participation in two clubs, interscholastic athletic teams or community-based service activities is one of the criteria for eligibility for induction into the
National Junior Honor Society at Berner and the National Honor Society at MHS.
Students are encouraged to participate in the many activities offered in each school.
It is also important that students who participate in activities maintain an acceptable
level of academic performance and behavior. The Board of Education has adopted
policy establishing academic, attendance, and disciplinary standards for participation in
extracurricula activities which applies to all students in grades 9-12. Further information is available in each school.

HOMEBOUND INSTRUCTION

Homebound instruction is available to resident public and private school children in

grades one through twelve who are likely to be absent for an extended period of time
due to illness. In order to apply for homebound instruction, parents must obtain the
appropriate forms, available in their child's school, and have them completed by a
physician. This service is not available to children absent from school because of communicable diseases. At the elementary level, parents should contact the building principal or assistant principal for information regarding homebound instruction. At the secondary level, parents should speak to their child's guidance counselor.

KINDERGARTEN

Massapequa is pleased to offer a full-day Kindergarten program. To be eligible to enter

kindergarten, a child must be five years old on or before December 1st of that school
year. No exceptions will be made to this policy. Registration is held in late winter
for the upcoming school year. Parents with children of kindergarten age who move into
the community should contact the District immediately for information about registration. Copies of the District's information booklet, distributed to all parents of new kindergartners, are available in the home schools administration offices.

daily. Food preparation and management are under the direct supervision of a professional staff. There are also a number of a la carte foods available at an additional cost.
A computerized debit card system that can be used for lunch meals and a la carte
items has been implemented throughout the District. The price of lunch is $2.40 in the
elementary schools and $2.65 in the secondary schools. A discounted yearly card that
entitles the student to a full lunch every school day is also available. The yearly cards
cost $366 for elementary students and $406 for secondary school students. Free or
reduced price lunches are available for children in families that qualify for assistance.
Applications for this program will be distributed to all students the first day of school.
For further information, please contact the School Lunch Office at 308-5745.

EXTRA HELP AND TUTORIAL PROGRAMS

Elementary After School Tutorial (EAST) is a supplementary program for elementary

pupils who need short term extra help in core academic areas. Sessions are scheduled either before or after the school day. Pupils are admitted to EAST with the
approval of the building principal through recommendation of one of the advisory teams
set up in each building (Instructional Support Team, Educational Planning Committee,
etc.) In the secondary schools, various extra-help programs are provided. Information
is available through the guidance department.

SPECIAL EDUCATION/STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

The Massapequa School District provides services for children who require specialized
programs due to physical, emotional, speech/language or learning disabilities.
Recommending placement into an appropriate special education program is the
responsibility of the Committee on Special Education (CSE). The Board of Education
is responsible for approving or disapproving the recommendation of the CSE or CPSE.

GUIDANCE

Guidance Services are an indispensable part of the Massapequa education system and
are integrated with all phases of the secondary school program. Guidance Counselors
are certified educators with a minimum of a masters degree in school counseling making them uniquely qualified to address all students academic, personal/social and
career development needs. Guidance Counselors serve a vital role in maximizing student success. Incorporating leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, counselors promote equity and access to opportunities and rigorous educational experiences for all
students. Counselors are assigned to students in grades 712 to assist them in making intelligent choices academically, socially, and personally, consistent with each students post high school plans. Counselors work with students in individual counseling
sessions to help resolve immediate problems and to make decisions regarding their
future. Counselors also work with students in groups, especially when disseminating
information on academic, college, and career planning. Counselors collaborate across
grade levels and consistently encourage students to explore intellectual interests
through curricular investigation and developing extracurricular, artistic, and athletic
experiences through exploration outside of the classroom. Communication is a cornerstone to the services offered by the Guidance Department. In-school and evening
workshops are held throughout the year at each grade level to assist students and parents with relevant issues. Frequent mailings, website updates, and e-mails are used to
maximize communication between the student, parents, and school. Please feel free
to contact the Guidance Department with any questions or concerns you may have.

PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES

The services of school psychologists are available to all students in the Massapequa
schools. They may be obtained by pupils themselves or at the request of parents or faculty. Through diagnostic testing, counseling, interviews and consultation with parents
and school personnel, school psychologists assist with the educational planning
process, individual student issues, and academic recommendations.

SOCIAL WORKERS

The District provides Social Work services at Berner (308-5750), MHS Ames Campus
(308-5850) and MHS Main campus (308-5950). Services can be obtained by the student, or at the request of the faculty or parent. Social Workers are trained to address
issues such as school, behavioral and family problems as well as substance abuse.
They also offer parenting programs throughout the school year and Character
Education programs in all three buildings. Please feel free to contact them with any
questions or concerns regarding your child.

LITERACY PROGRAM

The Districts Literacy Program is developmental in approach and designed to ensure

the mastery of skills essential to reading and writing proficiency. The New York State
Common Core Learning Standards provide the foundation for all literacy instruction and
as a result, the following six instructional shifts are inherent withihn all content:
Balancing Informational and Literary Text, Knowledge in the Disciplines, Staircase of
Text Complexity, Text-based Answers, Writing from Sources, and Academic Vocabulary.
Emphasis throughout the program is placed on the acquisition and application of reading/writing skills and creating lifelong learners. Classroom instruction begins in kinder-

garten with phonemic awareness, sound/symbol relationships, and building basic sight
vocabulary. Additional reading skills, including word recognition, fluency and comprehension, are developed progressively throughout the primary grades. Young elementary students learn the basic skills necessary to communicate in writing. Eventually, the
writing process becomes central to the life of a writer as students engage in writing personal narratives, fiction, expository non-fiction, persuasive and argumentative essays
and poetry. At the intermediate level, emphasis is placed on reading and writing to
learn, advanced research and study skills, and the application of higher-level strategies
to all content areas. Instruction is differentiated; a variety of instructional programs and
methods are employed to encourage individual achievement and may vary according
to the needs, abilities and interests of students. Literacy support is available to all students who meet entrance criteria. Teachers, counselors, psychologists, administrators
or parents may refer a student for evaluation through the Instructional Support Team
(IST) in each building. The ultimate goal of the Districts Literacy Program is to cultivate independent, self-motivated readers and writers whose lives are enriched through
the written word.

SUMMER SCHOOL

The District offers a secondary summer school program. Secondary summer school is
available to pupils in grades 9-12 upon approval from their guidance counselor.

The Massapequa Public Library is one of the largest and, without a doubt, the best in Nassau
County. Our last year statistics show that over 360,000 people crossed our thresholds while over
29,000 attended our programs. Our staff has answered more than 62,000 reference questions,
and our public computers were used more than 40,000 times. The Library circulation of all types
of materials exceeded 364,000, while our website was visited over 102,000 times. We have more
than 34,000 registered patrons and, most exciting of all, our circulation of e-books is the highest
in the County.
We hope you have noticed the changes we made over the past year: our beautiful updated website, the addition of Freegal which offers free downloadable music, Zinio which offers free downloadable magazines, and of course, our new Library cards. We look forward to bringing you more
changes enhancing the services available to you.
We continue to house a vast collection of bestsellers, classics, magazines, newspapers, DVDs,
and audiobooks. For those preferring electronic formats, books are ready to be downloaded to
your iPods, iPads, computers or eReaders. Information from soup to nuts is on our website, and
within our Library, our knowledgeable Reference Librarians will add a personal touch.Live tutors
offer support online from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., 7 days a week. Online help is also available with topics such as job searching, writing a resum, citizenship tests and report writing, 24/7.
Kids of all ages are in need of entertainment. Enjoy a movie, play Scrabble, try a relaxing yoga
session, try your hand at Mah Jongg, or a video gaming session. Lets not forget all of our discussion groups.
The goal of our Library remains a constant. YOU, our patrons come first, as we continue to offer
the broadest spectrum of services, while spending your tax dollars wisely and efficiently. Our
promise is to be prudent in managing resources, while not compromising the quality of Library
services. We have been able to hold our budget increase to 1.76%, which is less than last year
and within the New York State mandated cap.
Your loyal support for the Library is greatly appreciated, and our doors will always be open as we
continue to do our very best to serve you.
Respectfully,
