ENVI and IDL Installation Instructions

1. Download and save to a temporary local folder these files:
a. envi50sp3win64_setup.exe or envi50sp3win32_setup.exe
b. license_cga2_2012.dat
c. license_cga6_2012.dat
d. ENVI_Installation_Instruction_2013 (PDF)
2. Double click on step1 (a) to install the main software.
3. The installation will automatically launch License Wizard after step 2. If not, click Start -> All
Programs -> ENVI 5.0 -> Tools -> License Wizard.
4. Choose Install a license you have received.

5. Browse to C:\Program Files\Exelis\License\ where you saved license_cga2_2012.dat and


license_cga6_2012.dat files. Rename one of them as license.dat (license_cga2_2012.dat

should work at the time this instruction PDF is updated). Import the license.dat from License
Wizard.
If you need to switch license server in the future, simply rename the old license.dat back to its
original name, and rename the other file license.dat.

6. Click Finish. You can now use ENVI and IDL.

7. In case the primary license server is down for maintenance. When CGA notify you to switch to the
backup license server, you may start the License Wizard again, and browse to where you saved
license_cga2_2012.dat file. This draws a license from the backup license server
(cga2.cga.harvard.edu).
8. The License Wizard will then prompt you to confirm an overwrite of your local license file, click Yes
to confirm that.

9. You may switch between the two license servers at any time following CGA notifications.
