ELECTRICAL MACHINES

Professor: Ruben Salas-Cabrera

Consider the following n-dimensional linear time-invariant dynamic system
x = Ax(t) + Bu(t)
y(t) = Cx(t) + Eu(t)

(1)

Calculate the coefficients associated to the above mathematical description by using

one of the attached files (velo1.mat; velo2.mat; velo3.mat; velo4.mat; velo5.mat;
velo6.mat ) that contains the experimental rotor speed r .
In particular, the first row of the matrix in any of the attached files corresponds to
the time variable; the second row of the same matrix corresponds to the experimental
rotor speed r .
Assume that the experimental rotor speed corresponds to the start-up transient of a
shunt-connected DC motor.
The order of the model to be identified is 1. The only state variable is the rotor speed
x(t) = r (t). The only output variable is the rotor speed y(t) = r (t). The only input of
the system is the armature voltage (field voltage). In particular, u(t) = va (t) = vf (t) =
120V.
You may need to use the basic concepts associated to time constant of linear systems and an analysis of the equilibrium point for calculating the mentionated coefficients. Once the mathematical description is completely defined (in other words, once
A, B, C, E are already known), use it for obtaining the transient behaviour of the rotor
speed. A numerical method for solving the differential equation should be used. A
printed version of a figure that shows both the experimental rotor speed and the simulated rotor speed has to be presented.
