ABSTRACT

Evaluation of Prevention of Mother to Child HIV Transmission (PMTCT)


Program for Midwives in Sorong City
Papua was in the first place from all of the province in Indonesia with 10.116
HIV/AIDS cases. The group of reproductive age of 24-29 years old got the
highest percentage in the cases as 72,2%. In Sorong, 71 cases was reported, 31 of
them infected the housewives, while the number of children who were born from
a seropositive mother was 6 although the PMTCT program has been being done
from 2009.
This study aimed to evaluate the program done by the midwives in Sorong, using
the component of evaluation; input, process, output, outcome, and impact of the
program.
This study used analysis of qualitative data method. The datas were collected by
doing an observation and indepth interview to the midwives, the stakeholder of
the PMTCT program in DKK Sorong and some Puskesmas, and the pregnant
women who visited KIA at the puskesmas.
The results showed that the prevalence of mother to child HIV transmission was
increase from 0,18% in 2013 to 0,24% in October 2014. This caused by no
sufficient procedure provided by DKK Sorong, leak of involving of the skillful
health officer, funds, limited facilities, and supporting from family and people
around ODHA.
PMTCT training is aimed to produce skillful midwives in practice, sufficient
funds to complete the facility at puskesmas. Education to local people was
important to avoid ODHA from discrimination of view and attitude.
