14th November2014
On Mondays assembly, Mrs Wood gave us a talk about the
Tower of London poppies installation, Blood Swept Lands and
Seas of Red. The talk included a video clip about how the
ceramic poppies were made, which just made one even more
aware of the effort and care which went into the whole
endeavour, surely the most arresting and emphatic of all the
memorials in this centenary year. We are fortunate of course
to be relatively close to that part of London and I know in
recent days many Bronte families have been to see the
installation for themselves. I went up early on Tuesday
morning, and felt proud to be there on Armistice Day, 11th
November. Like many families I have spoken with at school, I
was struck by the quiet, subdued atmosphere as all those
present tried to take in the terrifying numbers laid out before
us.

I should add my thanks to Mrs Prescott and Mrs Ansell

for their work in supporting these PGCE placements, and
also to Mrs Wood, who has overall responsibility for
placements and mentoring.
The Juniors House Cross Country has just taken place,
when fortunately, after a heavy dose of rain earlier, the
late Autumn sun broke through and shined on the
runners as they ran around the Bat and Ball cricket
ground. It was a fine occasion, well organized by our
sports staff. The results, currently being worked out, will
be given in next weeks newsletter.

Looking Ahead
Week 11

Its been a week when two events focused on the schools

longer term planning and future. On Monday, the Bronte
School and Nursery Advisory Board had very useful meetings
with staff, as well as touring school and nursery. Just to remind
you, the advisory board comprises Catherine Mentzel, Richard
Dyson and Robin Lewis.
On Wednesday evening, the parents strategy meeting took
place. It was a very useful gathering. After an overview of the
schools current position and of strategic thinking for the
future, there was a very useful discussion time. The PowerPoint presentation has been e-mailed to all parents, with hard
copies to those not yet on ParentMail. I hope this will give you
a flavour of what was covered, and, if you have any comments
or questions, do please get in touch.
Mrs Nicola Booker and Mrs Suzy Coeshall have been with us for
the past 6 weeks, respectively in Years 3 and 5, these times
forming their placements during their PGCE courses at Christ
Church Canterbury University. This was the last for both of
them, and so we bid them a fond farewell. Both have made a
tremendous contribution, as well as, we trust, gaining good
experience of their chosen profession. We wish them all the
very best in their futures.
