Leaguetown high school has written a proposal to integrate single gendered classes in
order to improve test scores in all grades. This is a bad idea because it will reflect negatively on
the students in the future.
One of the main ideas of public school, is that it reflects the real world and society in
general. The issues faced in school, will be relatively similar to ones they would experience out
on their own. There isnt always going to be that extra level of protection that will help them in
the future.
The test scores are not guaranteed if the school integrates single gendered classrooms.
The research shows that public schools that have adopted single-gender classrooms without
appropriate preparation have not experienced test score improvements.
The classes will not improve the school either, if the student body greatly opposes the
new idea. The majority of the school is against single-gendered classes, which will not reflect
positively on test scores or on the school itself.
If the classrooms become single-gendered then it would only increase the gap between
men and women. Instead of striving for gender equality, it will only cause confusion as to why
students learn more efficiently when separated from the opposite sex, which will cause students
to believe that boys and girls truly are not equal.
Some teachers and parents believe that the new classrooms will create a great impact
on the school, but they only believe this because they do not have to go through this form of
experimentation themselves. They believe it will create a greater future for the students when
they are able to learn through a different method but they are seeing this from an adult
perspective, that it is their responsibility to construct the perfect environment for students to
learn in.
The new single-gendered classrooms is a terrible idea for the school to implement.
Though there is only a handful of benefits to it, most of them are not guaranteed.
