MAKING SHORT REVIEW

(APPROXIMATELY 50 WORDS)

PROVERB AS MORAL TEACHING

IN A TEXT

A proverb (PERIBAHASA/PEPATAH)
a short, generally known sentence of the
folk which contains wisdom, truth, morals,
and traditional views in a metaphorical,
fixed and memorizable form and which is
handed down from generation to generation.
(Mieder 1985:119; also in Mieder 1993:24)

EXAMPLES
Caught

between a rock and a hard place

Caught between the devil and the deep blue sea
(to be stuck with two choices that are both undesirable)

Bring

the gold to the castle

Mustn't cry over spilt milk
(do something useless)
Out

of the frying pan and into the fire

(to go from a bad to a worse situation)

Might

as well be hanged for a sheep as a lamb

(if you're going to get into the same amount of trouble, you
might as well commit the greater offense)

EXAMPLES

Two sides of the same coin

(two aspects of a situation that are connected by
necessity)
In for a penny, in for a pound
(if you're going to make a minor committment
you might as well make the entire committment)
Don't count your chickens before they're hatched
(don't start making plans for something until it is
a reality, rather than a pleasant speculation)
Don't cross your bridges before you get to them
(don't worry about future problems before you
need to)

EXAMPLE OF MAKING REVIEW

THE FILM PRESENTED TWO PERSONS AT THE

BEGINNING OF THE FILM. THE MAN DRESSED
WITH FORMAL DRESS SEEMED VERY CURIOUS
TO THE LADY SHOWED IN THE FILM. THE LADY
LOOKED VERY SEXY, BEAUTIFUL AND VERY
ATTRACTIVE. EVENTUALLY THE MAN
FOLLOWED THE LADY UNTIL HE STOOD BESIDE
HER, BUT UNFORTUNATELY HE WAS VERY
SUPRAISED SINCE THE ATRACTIVE LADY HE
THOUGHT WAS NOT AS HIS EXPECTATION
SINCE THE LADY WAS A MAN.

BASED ON THIS REVIEW WE CAN CONCLUDE

THAT WE HAVE TO ENSURE UNPREDICTABLE
THINGS BY HAVING SERIOUS JUDGEMENT . OR
IN SHORT WE CAN SAY THAT DO NOT EVER
JUDGE A BOOK FORM ITS COVER BECAUSE
ONCE WE MAKE WRONG ASSUMPTION WE
WILL HAVE WRONG DECISION TO BE MADE.
