Course Description/Grading Policy


Introduction to Drama Grade 9
Instructor: Mrs. Hetrick - Room: 243
Welcome!
As Shakespeare quoted in the late sixteenth century, All the world is a stage
Introduction to Drama is a ninth grade elective course that will teach students to
understand and appreciate this stage through present and historical perspectives.
Students will learn basic performance and technical skills and also study the literary and
historical aspects of theatre supplemented with cultural appreciations through community
events.
Students must possess and develop characteristics such as cooperation, positive
attitude, initiative, dependability, self-discipline and good work habits to exceed
in this course.
Class Rules
The student must always come to class prepared and on time. He or she must have all
assigned material and be prepared with writing utensils and a notebook. The student must
cooperate, do class work and homework diligently, and participate regularly.
Grading
Students will be graded on several projects and assignments each marking period including
individual projects, group projects, performances, quizzes, tests, participation, journals, and
homework. Many projects will be done in groups where students must learn to work
efficiently and effectively.
Any student who has an unexcused absence, illegal absence, or class cut will receive a zero
for each day of such absence as per AASD policy.
Report card grades shall be recorded using the following percentages as per AASD policy:

Makeup Work
It is the STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITY to make up all tests, quizzes, and class assignments.
The student must see me when he/she returns from any absence. Incomplete work will be
marked as a zero (0) until made up. I do accept late work for students that forget to do an
assignment. Students can receive up to credit for turning in the completed work within
one week.
Participation
A lack of student participation will adversely affect the students overall grades. Skills will
develop over the course of the year and will be graded accordingly; however, students must
be willing to try in order to succeed.
