Pass out mini cups of cheerios and worksheets for all of the kids. Go through
a series of number sentances with them, then let them work on writing their
own sentances when we finish going over the sentances we wrote as a group.
K6&7
1. What is a number setance?
2. What do we call it when we put two numbers together?
3. What sign do we use for adding?
Write five successful number sentances, and have each student able to reach
the answer all on their own (with the help of their tools (cheerios)).

Adding
o 20 Cherrios in a cup (per student)
o A worksheet for every student
o A SMART Board
Ask the if they know what a number sentence is. Have someone tell what it is,
and have someone else give an example.
1. Pass out Cheerios and Worksheets
2. Make up number sentances, and let the students come up with their
own answers
3. After weve finished all of the problems, go over the answers
4. Let the stdents write their own number sentances
Have other adults walking around the room giving assistance to students who
are having some difficulty with adding.
Let students write one or two number sentances of their own while we
supervise them and correct some answers.
Wal around and see if most students were ble to get the answers the the
number sentances we did as a class. This will give a pretty good idea of
whether or not adding makes sense to them.
I talked to a whole bunch of people about this lesson. I got advice from Maia,
Taylor, Amanda, Sadie, and my mom about what to do.
It went really well; for the most part, the kids really understood.
