Color Mixing
Books:
Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh
Little Blue and Little Yellow by Leo Lionni

Crafts:
Coffee Filter Butterfly:

Coffee Filter
Clothespins
Watercolors (mix a few drops of each
color with water in a small container)
Pipettes
Pipe cleaners

Using the pipettes, decorate the coffee filters with the watercolors. Pat with a paper towel. When
dry, clip a clothespin on the middle, and twist a pipe cleaner around the clothespin for antennae.
Decorate. Point out any new colors made by mixing.

Marble painting:

Paper
Deep pan or box
Marbles
Paint (red, yellow and blue)

Place the paper in the bottom of the pan. Squirt small amounts of paint onto the paper. Drop the
marbles into the pan. Tilt the pan, rolling the marbles around to form a painting. Talk to the
children about any new colors they made.
