OUR AUTUMN OF CELEBRATION!

What an air of special celebration has pervaded Bronte Nursery these past two Autumn months its touched
nearly everybody here and has lifted spirits immeasurably after a rather gloomy and anxious Summer.
We had EID, Diwali, Halloween, Guy Fawkes and Children in Need. The children here all talked about the
true meaning of these events and the history behind the traditions and celebrations. Their art and craft work
centred on the festivals even the solemnity and sadness behind Remembrance Day was covered and the
children made poppies to show their respect.
Then came the apology from Ofsted for their June inspection and the subsequent re-grading, confirming that
we continue to be the Good Nursery that Ofsted have always rated us as, since we opened in 2003.
Many of our staff joined us for a celebration curry night when this news came through.
Now, we have Christmas and New Year to look forward to concerts, parties, Father Christmas, Carols,
Presents and Goodwill to All Men even Ofsted!
Lastly, as you may have noticed, work has started on the nursery garden which will provide a new covered
outside area for the babies and an improved area for the rest of the children, new play equipment and
additional soft play surface. This should all be finished before Christmas.
We look forward to seeing as many of you parents as possible at the nursery Christmas events on the 17th,
18th and 19th. Santas Grotto will be open to all and mulled wine (non-alcoholic, but delicious) will be served
along with scrumptious refreshments prepared by Sally, our new cook, for all guests.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM EVERYONE AT THE NURSERY TO YOU ALL!

General News
We would like to thank everyone who took part in
dressing up for Halloween, The children and staff had a
wonderful time dancing and singing. The children all
looked fantastic for this fun-packed day.
Now, were busily preparing for Christmas in every room!
We have parties, concerts and decorations to arrange as
well as thinking about being with our families and
opening lots of presents at this special time.
Last month also saw our efforts for Children in Need.
Thank you to everyone who brought cakes and made
donations for this wonderful cause. The staff and
children looked lovely in their spotty outfits! Yes, we all
went quite dotty! We managed to raise a respectable
97.76. So, well done everyone!
We congratulate Jai from Yellow Room for guessing the
right weight of the scrumptious looking cake that had
been lovingly made by Kelly from Blue Room. We hope
you enjoy it.
You cannot but be aware that Christmas is fast
approaching and so its that time of year again when

many of our children dress up and put on a mini show for

their parents. This year, Pre-School will be staging a short
play entitled Happy Birthday Jesus which will be followed
by a little party. That will be on Wednesday 18th December
at 3pm. Green Room will be performing a (very!) short
ballet followed by a party on Thursday 19th December at
3pm.
Purple and Blue Rooms will be At Home for everyone to
drop in and enjoy the festivities on Tuesday 17th
December.
We do ask that only two people attend from each
childs family, due to limited space, and that you arrive
no earlier than 2:45pm. Santa is attending all three
afternoons and will be available in his grotto for your child
to visit and collect a small present. All three events start at
3.00 and finish at 5.00. The Toddler and Pre-School
Displays are very short and tend to start promptly at 3.00
so the children can relax and enjoy the rest of the
afternoon. Please be sure you
arrive promptly and allow time
for parking in the town and
getting to the nursery from there.

Joshua and Basil to Yellow Room.

Christmas Closure
The nursery will be closing for Christmas at 1pm on
Tuesday 24th December and re-opening on Thursday
2nd January at 7.30am.

We also said farewell to Simran and Joshua from PreSchool Room and Harry from Blue Room.

Best wishes, once again, for a wonderful Christmas

and a Happy New Year.

Here is a report on what your children

have been doing

Sarah, Suki and all the nursery staff

Toddlers
A recent theme in Toddlers has been Space.

Birthdays
John, Jovan, Sahib, Rhys, Dilan, Taya, Serena,
Miles, Priya and Joshua all celebrated their birthdays
in November and we send our belated greetings to
all.
Hellos and Goodbyes
We recently welcomed three new members of staff to
the team. Belinda Traill joined Green Room as a
Level 3 nursery nurse; Abigail Fay joined Purple
Room as an unqualified nursery nurse working
towards her foundation degree and Bethany Cole
joined Blue Room as a Level 3 nursery nurse. We
said Goodbye to Sarah Chadwick from Purple Room
who is about to embark on a new career as a Nanny
and will be working in the French Alps.

Children kept themselves busy creating rockets, using a

variety of materials.
To expand, enhance,
and extend learning
further, the children
have been studying
dark and light, and
day and night. They
learned, and are
aware, that the stars
come out at night, as
do some animals.
Role play included
time spent with lights
in the garden sensory Two Toddlers compare their home-made
space rockets
shed, and an
opportunity to pretend
they were going into space and visiting the moon! To
enhance and extend language (new teaching
guidelines) and number skills, children have
experienced the Blast off Book which encourages
children to count, not only up to 10, but count down from
10 to 1. They loved saying Blast Off!
In addition the children raised money for Children in
Need by decorating and selling cakes and by dressing
up for the day. They even touched on Remembrance
Day by making poppies and talking about the
importance of thinking about other people.
Craft activities included shape-based concepts, stencils,
printing with different textures and colours and multicoloured sand.

Pre-school
Last month, the
children in Pre-School
talked about
Remembrance Day
and made their very
own poppies to mark
the occasion.

Belinda Traill

We have recently welcomed Oliver to Purple Room;

Josiah and Antony to Blue Room; Ari, Sahib, Liberty,
James and Izaiah to Green Room and Ibrahim,

They also learned

about the festival of
Diwali. They listened
to the tale of Rama,
Pre-Schoolers celebrating Halloween
the king of all kings,
and Sita, who used the light to guide her home safely.
Children then made their very own Divas.
Children in Need meant that everyone had the chance
to dress up in their spottiest outfits ever whilst raising
money for the charity! The children joined in the making

of delicious cakes to sell, in aid of helping children

who are less fortunate.

her Remembrance Day tribute

With the change in

weather, Pre-School have
focused on the four
seasons and used all
sorts of different materials
to create some wintery,
sticky
pictures.
The
children discussed how to
keep warm by putting on
extra layers of clothing
and thought about the
concept of hot and cold.

Transport. The babies made tracks in the shaving foam

and gloop with their cars and trains. Then they played
with the boats in the water. The babies loved playing on
the sit-and-ride cars and listening to all the different
vehicle noises. The children made some beautiful
pictures of traffic lights and all types of transport using
various paints and sponges. As part of the transport
theme the babies went on a lovely trip to the train
station and whilst on their journey, they also saw some
buses and boats.
Now its getting colder the babies are going in the play
shed outside doing lots of singing and playing with the
musical instruments. The children were also fascinated
by the pretty fairy lights.

Rehearsals are well and

truly underway for our Christmas production! Children
are practising their lines and perfecting their actions
in order to make it the performance of a lifetime!
Everyone is very excited and greatly looking forward
to the day.
Blue Room
Blue Room were all dressed up and looking good for
Halloween! They enjoyed carving pumpkins and
experimented with the different textures of the
pumpkin and
its seeds. They
also had fun
with craft
activities
making some
spooky ghosts,
spiders and bat
masks.

the children
were busy
throughout the month. They made wonderful
fireworks pictures and pretty sparklers for bonfire
night; they decorated beautiful clay divas and made
some rangoli patterns to celebrate Diwali. They made
poppies to commemorate Remembrance Day and
white chocolate rice crispy cakes to sell for Children
in Need. What a good job they did, they were yummy!
Blue Room have also enjoyed exploring the sensory
bed in the garden by touching and smelling all the
different herbs. Finally, they did some bubble play what a lot of fun they had chasing the bubbles!
Purple Room
In celebration of Guy Fawkes night the babies made
rockets and were introduced to the joy of splatter
painting, i.e. making lots of mess! They made some
lovely poppies and a wreath out of their hand prints
for Remembrance Day. With a little help, they baked
lots of cakes to sell for Children in Need.
