Late Work:
Students will not have the
option to not do work in class.
If a student does not complete
an assignment, they may be
asked to complete it at home
in addition to homework that
has already been assigned.
Students will be required to
turn in a record of late or
unfinished work.

Absences:
It is the students
responsibility to get any
assignments that are missed
due to absence. I have a spot
in the classroom dedicated to
absent work that will have
student names on it.

Primary Writing Focus: Informative/Explanatory

All Areas: Cite several pieces of text evidence to support ideas.

Literary Texts: Analyze the development of a theme throughout
a text; analyze how particular elements of a text interact (i.e., how
settings shape characters or plot); analyze how a poems structure
contributes to its meaning; compare and contrast a fictional text
with a historical account of the same period to understand how
authors of fiction use and affect history.
Informational Texts: Determine multiple central ideas and how
the author develops them; understand bias and provide objective
summaries; determine the denotative, connotative, literal, and
figurative meanings used in a text; trace an authors point of view
throughout a text.
Language (Grammar): Use phrases and clauses appropriately;
recognize and correct dangling modifiers; correctly use coordinate
adjectives; use simple, compound, complex, compound-complex
sentences correctly in writing; punctuate and spell correctly.
Writing: Argument (claims, counterclaims, and evidence);
Informational (organized ideas, relevant facts, cohesive
transitions); Narrative (sensory language, descriptive details,
narrative techniques)
