The Force Awakens in San Diego as Mayor Faulconer

Officially Opens Comic-Con 2015 Today
San Diego, CA Joined by costumed fans from the Star Wars film series, Mayor Kevin L.
Faulconer this morning will officially open Comic-Con International San Diego 2015. For
decades, the Force has been strong with Comic-Con in San Diego, and it grew even stronger last
week when Mayor Faulconer and Comic-Con announced that San Diego will continue to host the
world-famous convention through at least 2018.
Comic-Con International is the San Diego Convention Center's largest event of the year and is
conservatively estimated to generate $135.9 million regionally and $2.8 million in tax revenues
for the city. The revenue directly benefits residents by funding city services, including street
repair, parks and libraries. Comic-Con also showcases San Diego on an international stage
through television and media coverage.
The 2015 convention continues through Sunday, July 12. This year marks the 46th year for the
event, making it the country's longest continuously-run comics and popular arts convention.
