Problem Definition
The main lube oil pump pressure was not sustaining. Its operating pressure is 40 psi
and tripping pressure is 12 psi. However when it was started at 30 psi after few minutes
its pressure started reducing and dropped down. So the main problem identified was
lose of suction of lube oil pump.
Main lube oil gear pump was taken out and clearances taken. All checks were done of
O-rings, dimensions, wear/tear. All were found OK.
Heater was checked that whether it hadnt turned on.

Possible Causes

Faulty pressure gauge.

Low oil level in the sump.

Leakage in suction pipe.

Oil grade in the crank case is not compatible.

Attached Lube oil gear pump is faulty.

Worn out Bearing, clearance is more.

Crankcase heater defective.


Oil pressure control defective or improperly wired.
Clogged oil filter
Air leak in suction line to pump

Actual Problem
Axial thrust collar was damaged. Original axial clearance was 26 thou but when
checked it was 75 thou.
The main journal bearings were not lubricated properly and had seized on the
crankshaft. This had caused their wear out and they were rotating with the crankshaft.
The big end bearings were worn out too.
