Mechanical Changes

Here are the following additions and the changes of the system options.

System Front View

NARRATION: The mechanical options remain the same and can be used for the new model.

System Rear View

NARRATION: The four new system options are the expanded memory unit EM-103, network interface
card NC-503, image controller IC-206, and fax kit FK-506.
The new expanded memory unit EM-103 has 128MB of capacity. The conventional EM-101/102 cannot be
used for the new model.
Installing NC-503 enables the machine to perform network print and network scan functions, making Scan
to E-mail and Scan to FTP available.
For those scan functions, the conventional model requires the fax option, however, the new model can
perform the scan functions without the fax option.

existing two-line LCD.
Instead of using a number of scattered Arrow Keys, Arrow Menu keys are now used to provide
simplified and a more understandable operation.
If desired, the new model also allows Chinese characters to be displayed on the panel.

From the CUSTOM SIZE MEMORY menu, two of the most frequently used
custom paper sizes can be registered. The custom paper sizes registered
here can be selected for the size of paper loaded in the 1st paper drawer
or the bypass tray.
Frequently used paper sizes can be registered and recalled when needed. The
following sizes can be registered.
Length: 140 mm to 432 mm
Width: 90 mm to 297 mm

NARRATION: From the CUSTOM SIZE MEMORY menu, two of the most frequently used
custom paper sizes can be registered.
Paper dimensions can be registered in advance for copying or printing onto non-standard paper
sizes from the 1st paper drawer or the Bypass Tray. The number of paper sizes that can be
registered has been increased to three. Of the three, one is the paper size currently set in the
control panel, and two more sizes can be saved in the memory. Previously, only the paper size
currently set in the control panel could be registered.

NOTES: The print control board (PRCB) controls mainly the engine section that includes motor, solenoid, and
sensor. In addition, the board controls the options such as additional cassette and job tray.
The MFB board (MFCB) performs image processing control. The board also communicates with ADF, control
panel, scanner, fax board, and NIC board and controls them. The MFB board has a USB port as standard.
The board is also equipped with 32MB memory. The board memory can be expanded up to 160MB with the
additional 128MB of the optional expanded memory unit EM-103 that can be inserted into the slot on the board.
The addition of optional network card NC-503 or image controller IC-206 allows network print and network
scan.
Image controller IC-206 equipped machine can be used as PCL printer. The fax kit machine can enhance the
fax features with the addition of the fax kit. When the machine is equipped with both the fax kit and NIC,
Internet fax function is available.

31

Toner Agitating Seal Addition

Service Manual

To prevent the developing unit toner recycling part from getting clogged, the toner
agitating seal is added. The toner agitating seal requires replacement every time
when the developer is replaced (at every 40 K). At the setup time, check to make
sure that the seal is above the roller.

NARRATION: The toner agitating seal in the developing unit requires replacement every time
when the developer is replaced.
To download the corresponding service manual, simply click on the link.

32

Weight Addition to Both Ends of the Feed Roller

Service Manual

To reduce abnormal noise produced from the tray 1 when feeding

OHP transparencies, a weight is added to both ends of the feed roller.
The revised feed roller replacement procedures include a new step
where the weight is removed.
The new model also uses the same feed roller used for the conventional one.
Weight

For the feed roller replacement,

the weight needs to be removed
first by loosening the set screw
with a hexagon wrench (2.5mm).

NARRATION: To address the problem of abnormal noise produced from the paper tray when
feeding OHP transparencies, a piece of weight is used at both ends of the feed roller in the new
model. Therefore, before replacing the feed roller, remove the weight first by loosing the set
screw with a hexagon wrench. The conventional feed roller is also used for the new model.
