Unit: Creating Business Recognition (Logo & Slogan)
Teacher: Mallory Buzun-Miller Objectives: Student will understand product recognition and the importance for success. Student will create a personal logo and slogan for their company/service. Student will gain and use new Microsoft Word formatting abilities. Standards: Use various input technologies to enter and manipulate information appropriately. Design, develop, test, and implement programs. Materials: Computer with Microsoft Word Connection to the Internet Color Printer Duration: 2-3 Class Periods (70 Minutes Each) Anticipatory Set: Logo and Slogan Quiz Student will look at famous logo and slogans that they encounter on a daily basis. They are to guess what company it is. (Transitions into product recognition) Teaching: Input: PowerPoint on package design and product identity. The importance of making a name and a face for your product/service. Step-by-step walkthrough on formatting pictures, how to use a screen shot, manipulating graphics using paint, snipping tool, using shapes, copyright and clip art options, formatting and design tabs. Modeling: Basic logo and slogan examples, completed student examples, examples of good and bad logos/slogans. Checking for Understanding: Students will find examples of good logos and bad logos and why they are either good/bad. Question Strategies: Students will describe in a well-developed paragraph why their company logo/slogan is important. After creating a brainstorming chart for their logo/slogan, students will create a pros and cons list for their brainstormed ideas and list whether the idea would create a good or bad logo/slogan result and why. Guided Practice: Students create business logo/slogan using Microsoft Word. Closure: Groups will hold a board meeting to determine which logo/slogan they prefer for their company. They will report back to the class explaining why they made the decisions they made. Conclude the lesson with reestablishing the importance of creating an identifiable identity for
their product/service and how they can create graphics using Microsoft Word. Independent Practice: Group board meeting to discuss style and concepts needed to make a logo/slogan.
