Annual Development Plan and Record - 2013
Name:

ELVIN NIPOK

School:

SK MELAYU PUSAT,
LIMBANG

To be completed by the teacher during discussion with your mentor:

Plan (early 2013)
1. Look at the Project teacher self-assessment chart. What will be your targets for 2013?
Looking back to the Project teacher self-assessment chart, for the overall general language
ability, I put myself to the B2 level. Im not really satisfied with my own achievement for last
year. So, for this year, Im planning to increase my capability and knowledge in the four main
skills. Here are my targets for the four main skills :
1. Speaking
I would like to enhance my speaking skills to a level that is better than last year so that
I am more fluent and accurate.
2. Writing
I would like to develop and increase my writing skills to be more fluent and accurate.
3. Listening & reading
I would like to enhance my listening and reading skills to a better level than last year.

2. How will you improve your English this year? With your mentor, make a plan for 2013.
Think about your targets, different ways to improve your English and how you can share what
you do with other project teachers in your group of schools.
To improve my English in the four main skills, here are my plans throughout this year.
1. Speaking & Listening
- I need more practise, exposure and use of the English language frequently in my daily
activities.
- To ensure this will be possible, I will use and speak English when :
a) meeting my co-mentees in school,
b) attending the project activities or workshops,
c) doing the inter-school visits,
d) doing the peer observation,
e) meeting my mentor session.

The United Kingdoms international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. A registered charity: 209131 (England and Wales) SC037733 (Scotland).

2. Reading
- I need to read a lot of English materials to gain more knowledge and to improve my
English.
a) Reading the English news from the internet.
b) Reading stories to my own kids at home.
c) Reading the local English newspapers such as Borneo Post.
3. Writing
- To develop my writing skills to be better, I need to get more practise.
- By writing my lesson plans and reflection logs, I realised that it was the best way to
improve my own writing skills.
- Other than that, by writing the most significant change about myself, I was able to see the
changes in my writing skills. I was able to see the improvement in my writing.
- Therefore, for more practice, I will try to use English when sending e-mails and text
messages to my friends.
Overall, to ensure the accuracy of the usage of the language, I will use the English Grammar
In Use as a main reference. Besides that, I will use a dictionary to check the meaning,
spelling and pronunciation of words, surf the internet to get information and resources and
using mobile phone applications to get more information that I really need.

Mentors comments on the development plan for 2013:

Elvin is conscious of the need to continue to develop accuracy and fluency in speech and
writing and to get more exposure and practice of the language. She has drawn up a
comprehensive plan to enable her to do this and further develop her confidence in using the
language both inside and outside the classroom. She has become increasingly aware of
areas of interference from BM and will, hopefully, continue to expand and develop
appropriate English Language reference sources.

Assess and review your English language development
1. Is your English getting better as a result of time spent with your mentor? Looking again at
the CEF self-assessment grid, where are you now?
My English is getting better now. I feel more confidence using the language with my
students in class. I was able to put myself to the C1 level now as Ive improved in all the skill
areas.

2. How satisfied are you with your progress in English over the past year?
When I reflect back my progressions now and before, I could say that Ive improve a lot in
many areas.
Speaking
I am able to use the language to communicate with my colleagues and my students without
fear of making mistakes.
Reading
I am able to read any of English resources such as articles from the internet, newspapers
and magazines.
Writing
I need to do more practises with my writing skill. I need to think about the accuracy.

3. In what ways has your English improved?

I have improved a lot in my classroom teaching techniques. I also feel more confident using
the language in the classroom when teaching the young learners.

4. What have you done that has improved your English?

I keep on doing my planning before teaching and do reflection to identify my own strengths
and weaknesses. I also grade the language to make sure it suits to my pupils capabilities. I
am now more aware of the interference of the local language or BM when teaching the
language to my pupils.

Handing over responsibility for language proficiency:

(For beyond September 2013)
Reviewing:
Look through the plans and reflections on language proficiency throughout the project.
Discuss: What has changed? What language learning tools were most useful?
Planning for beyond the project
1. Why do you want to continue improving your English? Which areas of English do you want
to improve?
I think that learning English language is really important nowadays because of the
globalisation in various areas that is not only in education.
I want to improve in all of the skills that are listening, speaking, reading and writing which I
will use them fluently and accurately.

2. What activities do you want to continue or begin in order to improve the areas identified
above?
I keep on doing my planning and reflection after teaching. I used the dictionary and other
references to make sure the accuracy.
I also participate in English Day in my school every Wednesday.

3. Who will help you meet your goals? What resources do you need?
My colleagues will help to guide or correct me with the pronunciation and grammar usage. I
also will speak English with my students to encourage them to love English language. During
workshop I also get exposure as the workshop is conducting in English.

4. How will you check your progress? When will you do this?
I will get feedback from my colleagues and also I will do with my own self checking. I will do it
during interschool visits and maybe any social meeting outside the school.
