ULCER INDEX

1-

The evaluation of

ULCER INDEX

will be calculated by adding the

Total Number of ulcers per stomach

+ the total Severity of ulcers per

stomach.
Severity of gastric ulcer score

0 = no ulcers
1 =changes limited to superficial layer of the mucosa with no congestion.
2 = half the mucosal thickness will show necrotic changes.
3 = more than 2/3rd of the mucosal thickness will show necrotic changes.
4 = complete destruction of the mucosa with hemorrhage.
The Ulcer Index (UI) is calculated as given below
UI = Un + Us + (Up 10-1)
Un = average number of ulcers per animal.

Us = average number of severity scores.

*Up = percentage of animals with ulcers.
% Protection = (C-T/C) X 100
Where C= ulcer index in control group, T= ulcer index in treated group

Gastric juice pH was determined by taken aliquot of

1ml gastric juice and diluted with 1ml of distilled water
and the pH of the solution was
measured using a pH meter.
2.9 Histopathological Evaluation

Modified Sydney Classification of

Ac.Chemical Gastritis Induced by
NSAIDs:

Histopathological Examination
Stomachs tissue samples will be fixed in 10% formalin, embedded in
paraffin, sectioned and stained with hematoxylin and eosin for histological
examination using light microscopy.
All stomach specimens will also be graded according to a modified version of
Dixons system for chemical gastritis. Slides will be assessed for Foveolar
hyperplasia, oedema, and prominent smooth muscle fibres and will be
graded as
0 = Negative.
1 = Mild.
2 = Moderate.
3 = Severe.
