Background The government structure of The Republic

of the Sudan has been tumultuous since the region won
independence from Great Britain in 1956. There have
been numerous civil wars and coups in 1958, 1964, 1969,
and 1989 (Country Studies). The region has gone through
some drastic changes in the last two decades. There has
been a civil war being fought between Sudan and South
Sudan. South Sudan gained their independence in 2011
but still has a joint government with Sudan. The current
structure is based on based on the Interim Constitution
of Southern Sudan and the principles embodied in the
Comprehensive Peace Agreement. (Gurtong). There are
three main governing bodies much like in the United
States.
This structure though has many more sub categories.
