Reviewing our test results for he HyCO 20T, I am glad to see that we didn't go over
the maximum horsepower or the engine

as a concern expressed by Mike
Hamil on because he kne
hat CAT would not look favorably upon any device or
me hod ha Increased he cylinder pressures too much.
I see hat he exhaus empera ures sayed abou he same, even hough we Increased
he horsepower and decreased he fuel consump Ion. The opaci y looks like it stayed
about he same.
There is, however, a significant factor hat we found out only after the tests were all
run and we were dismounting the HyCO 20T. A considerable amount of fuel had been
retained in the HyCO container. This is both good and bad.
It is good because I estimate the fuel retained to have been about a quart, certainly no
less than a pint. And this retained fuel w s not returned to the IItest tank ll to be
weighed, this means that we got better economy than the test indicated. Maybe as
much as 10%!
It is bad because he can ainer as no su posed to re alO fuel and this fuel could,
given Ime, flood the can ainer, firs stoppmg the mis ing action of the ball and
even ually draining over in a he engine. I care ully revle ed the HyCO 2DT and
discovered the reasons for he fuel re en I n. () sligh vacuum In he In ake pipe

To prevent thiS from
happening again, I am inS ailing an elec ric uel pump on he dram, a provide a
positive drainmg eHect.
am also IOstalllOg a loat SWI ch inside the container that
will light a warning light If he container retains any fuel.
The Cummins triple four engines that we have been running these HyCO 201's on did
not have a fuel retention problem because their drain lines are 1/2 inch 10. I learned
a lot with this test and look forward to another test with the corrected system.
