OBJECTIVES
Students will be able to demonstrate and identify safe and unsafe
practices in the laboratory setting.
CURRICULUM FRAMEWORKS
Unit: Introduction to Lab Safety for Physical Science
PROCEDURE
HW: Get Safety Contract Signed
Motivational Learning Activity: Warm-up: Describe the following lab
scenario (picture).
Activity: Identify whats right, whats wrong? (Duke Accident/Marie
Curie)
Other Learning Activities: Lab Safety Brainstorm: What does it
mean to be safe? What does it mean to be unsafe? (On board)
Closing Learning Activities: Lab Safety PowerPoint
OUTGROWTH
This review of safety procedures and equipment will allow for students
to be assessed on Fridays Safety Quiz, and will ultimately lead into lab
material usage.
ASSESSMENT
Students will be assessed on the completion of the contract (HW) and
the Quiz Friday for Safety Procedures.
ADAPTATIONS
Students will be walked around the room to each safety station rather
than being given a description of the safety procedures.
