Lesson Plan

Teacher’s Name: Class: 7 R,I,G,H, T Date:Oct. 12 - 16, 2020

Subject:  Integrated Science Duration: One Week

Topic:Working like a scientist Sub-topic: Safety

Lesson Objectives:
 1. Identify specific situations in the home, classroom and science laboratory which may
be

             potentially dangerous.

2. Describe ways in which potentially dangerous situations may be corrected.

3. Formulate at least five safety rules for selected working environments- home,
laboratory.

4. Predict the consequences that may result from not following safety rules.

Content Summary:
 Safety is important in the science labs to ensure students and
teachers stay out of harm's way. Science classrooms often have
equipment -- such as Bunsen burners, chemicals and sharp tools --
that pose potential hazards if used improperly.
  In order to remain safe, children need to know and follow the safety
rules in all areas of their lives.
  Chemicals have precautions on them to warn us of particular
dangers. To stay safe we need to follow the rules at school, at home
and on the roads.

Resources needed:

computer/ smart device, pictures of safe and unsafe kitchen and laboratory
materials for making posters.

Assessment:
Engagement: The students will be brainstormed about who they think a
scientist is  and describe signs and symbols that they encounter in their daily
lives. Students and teachers will discuss the importance of these signs.

Exploration: The students will be given an animated video on safety in the lab.
From the video, students will identify and record at least five (5) safety rules in
the lab. 👍

Additionally, the students will examine pictures of unsafe practices in the

laboratory and kitchen. They will identify and record at least five (5) possible
outcomes of the potentially dangerous situations.

Check the labels of at least ten (10) products at home and identify the safety
symbols. For each product, infer to which should most care be given. 🙌🏻

Explanation: The students will share their findings with the class while the
teacher clarifies concepts through discussions.

Elaboration: In light of the students’ new knowledge, the students will look at
the benefits of carrying out the safe practices at home and at school.
Additionally, the students will create rules that they think can help both them and
their peers while at play.

Evaluation I:
 Students will complete Activities on Safety in the Science Lab
 Students will create a Safety poster for the Science Lab.
