Thermostat

THERMOSTAT
REMOVAL OF THERMOSTAT
1.

DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (See page CO5)

DISCONNECT WATER INLET HOSE

3.

REMOVE WATER INLET FROM INLET HOUSING


Remove the two nuts and water inlet from the inlet housing.
REMOVE THERMOSTAT AND GASKET

INSPECTION OF THERMOSTAT
INSPECT THERMOSTAT
HINT: The thermostat is numbered with the valve opening
temperature.
(a) Immerse the thermostat in water and gradually heat the
water.

(b) Check the valve opening temperature.


Valve opening temperature:
8084C (176183F)

If the valve opening temperature is not as specified, replace


the thermostat.
(c) Check the valve lift.
Valve lift:
10 mm (0.39 in.) or more at 95C (203F)

If the valve lift is less than specification, replace the thermostat.

INSTALLATION OF THERMOSTAT
1.

PLACE THERMOSTAT IN WATER PUMP


(a) Install a new gasket to the thermostat.
(b) Align the jiggle valve of the thermostat with the
perpendicular as shown, and insert the thermostat in the
water inlet housing.

2.

INSTALL WATER INLET


Install the water inlet to the inlet housing with the two nuts.
Torque: 18 Nm (185 kgfcm, 13 ftlbf)

CONNECT WATER INLET HOSE

4.

REFILL WITH ENGINE COOLANT (See page CO6)

5.

START ENGINE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS
