Individual Audition for Ensemble Placement
Purpose: To evaluate individual student performance; place students appropriately within ensembles for their level of learning; establish strong and appropriate instrumentation for large performing ensembles. Assessment Method: Evaluation of Individual Student Performances via live or taped performance. Procedures: Assessment will occur at different times of year at each school based on the needs of individual program. Students will be individually assessed by either the director or by a qualified professional. One entire section (i.e. all cellos) will be assessed by the same professional. Scoring Device/Data Collection: KSHSAA State Solo/Small Ensemble Rubric This rubric may be modified based on audition requirements. State Large Group Festival
Purpose: To evaluate individual student performance; place students appropriately within ensembles for their level of learning; establish strong and appropriate instrumentation for large performing ensembles. Assessment Method: Summative Assessment of Group Performance by a panel of Professional Adjudicators. Professional Adjudicators use the KSHSAA State Large Group Performance Rubric to evaluate performance quality. These have been adopted by multiple other states, and have earned national respect. High School Orchestra Repertoire Assessment
Purpose: To evaluate student performance and progress on a variety of musical criteria, aligned with National Standards Assessment Method: Individual student performance. All HS Students may be assessed on performance of musical excerpts (individually or in sections) from repertoire in preparation for performance, at some point prior to full ensemble performance.
