From the desk of the director

My first Railroad Days Celebration is history and I cant begin to express my
gratitude to all who stepped up to help make it a huge success. The rain was
the only damper on what otherwise would have been a perfect weekend.
I want to say thank you to all who helped on the Railroad Days events, the
sponsors, the people who donated in the jars for fireworks, the Staples City
Park & Rec staff, the Police Department, the Staples Fire Department, the
Chamber Board Members, and my own family who came home and helped to
make these events successful.

Just a few Railroad Days Highlights
Chili Cook-off a huge success!!!
Minnesota Sings Staples Sings
Ten wonderful young men and women competed in
the contest to represent Staples at the Minnesota
Sings event. The wind and rain proved to make it
difficult to sing but they gave their all and we are so
proud of them and thankful that they performed for
a large crowd of family and friends. The winner of
the event is Jake Denning and the runner-up is
Jennessa Iverson. We look forward to see how they
do at the state contest. Good luck!!!

Railroad Days Car Show

Thank you to Napa Auto Parts and the Staples Area
Women of Today for coordinating this years Car
Show. Even though the rain kept many away, it
was a great success for the 60 or so cars that
attended. We look forward to continuing the Car
Show in 2016 Railroad Days Celebration.

L.A. Pig Races coming to Railroad Days

What excitement, the Leader Area Pig Races
brought to this years Railroad Days! Over 650
people attended the two shows. Fans waved their
flags to cheer on the pig they sponsored in hopes
they would win the race and the kids had a great
time! Thank you Gary Dauer and crew for a great
time for this years RR Days.

Nine teams cooked their way to present the best

recipe of their favorite chili. LAPS team, with their
Paul Bunyan/Lumberjack theme, took the prize for
best theme; the Staples Rotary won the Peoples
Choice prize and the Curves Red Chili was the
winner of the judges choice for best chili.
The Staples Host Lions donated the use of their two
tents and the combined effort of many volunteers
quickly put the tents up and took them down when
the competition was over. Thank you Staples Host
Lions for that wonderful sponsorship of the Chili
Cook-off event.

Railroad Days Parade a very damp event!!

Over 60 units were lined up to take part in the
Railroad Days parade only to be part of a very damp
parade. The parade was about 2/3 finished when a
sharp flash of lightning, loud thunder and a down
pour of rain caused a very quick end to this long
awaited parade. Thank you for all who came to be a
part of the parade. You helped to make many
people happy in spite of the rain and gave them an
opportunity to enjoy your display to showcase your
business, organization and individual theme.
Wayne Renn concert held at
Centennial Auditorium
The Wayne Renn concert was held at the Centennial
Auditorium due to inclement weather. Even though
concert attendees had a hard time locating the
concert it was enjoyed by 100 plus people. All of
the entertainers gave of their all and was greatly
appreciated by all.

Arvig Named One of Prairie Business 50 Best Places to Work
PERHAM, MINN., Aug. 31, 2015 Arvig is excited to announce it has been named one of Prairie Business magazines 50
Best Places to Work in the northern Plains. Arvig will be featured in the September issue of the magazine and honored as
one of the top 25 large employers (100+ employees). The magazine article is available today on www.prairiebizmag.com.
It is an honor to be named one of Prairie Business best places to work, said David Arvig, Chief Operating Officer/Vice
President at Arvig. This recognition is a true reflection of our employees, whoin my opinionare the best around. Their
dedication, hard work and positive attitudes have made an incredible impact on our company culture. Coming to work
every day is a great experience, which in turn gives our customers a great experience, too.
Companies were nominated through an anonymous employee satisfaction survey and rated in areas including work
environment, employee benefits and employee happiness. Consideration was also given to the number of nominations
received per company.
People want to be happy at work. It's just that simple, said Korrie Wenzel, publisher at Prairie Business magazine. The
businesses that truly careabout their people as well as the future of the business itselfneed to understand that. As the
region's unemployment level plunges, businesses are quickly realizing that they have to work harder to recruit and retain
the best workers.
Now in the second year of hosting the Best Places to Work contest, Prairie Business received nearly 2,500 surveys
nominating more than 140 companies.
