Chapter 5:
In this part of the book the author emphasize in the genres of legal translation with
the aim to the translator is able to identify the macrostructure and conventions of the
any kind of text to produce it, to the target language, without alter the meaning and
the initial intention of the author in the given legal context. In a precise and effective
way.
First of all, introduce the genre concept and how to recognize it by its stylistic and
formal features such as the communicative function, discourse, lexical and syntactic
levels, and common socio-pragmatic and be careful about the complexity of the
legalese (legal vocabulary)

Chapter 8:

This chapter of the book is about techniques in legal translation. The author
emphasize in the complexity of legal translation and mentions some techniques that
the legal translator must use to do an excellent translation.
The author mentions some factors such as context, traditional usage, genre and
subgenre. He emphasize in literal translation as a technique that cannot be used in
legal translation.
The techniques that the author consider important in the legal translation are:
Transposition, expansion, modulation, modifiers, the syntax of legal English: double
conjunctions, thematization: syntactic peculiarities of individual languages and
textual coherence: lexical repetition in English legal discourse, synonyms .
According to the author, transposition is a substitution of one grammatical category
for another one.
Expansion is translate a document from the microstructure to the macrostructure,
what means translating any part of the text. Modulation is to make change to
improve the text.
Translators in the legal field make many mistakes. One of the most importants is the
lexical unknown. For that reason the author mention modifiers. In modifiers we can
found a the complex noun phrase or the feature between English and Germanic
languages. Also there are two modifiers: single premodifier and 2 or more
premodifier.
