Santa Monica High School

Santa Monica High School, in cooperation with The Getty Villa, is piloting a
Latin Summer Academy July 19-23 and 26-30, 2010. This 10-day Academy will
feature an immersion Latin language experience, dealing not only with many
aspects of modern life, as we take short walking tours to build vocabulary and
fluency, but also cultivating a greater understanding of ancient Roman life. We
will explore the wonders of the art, architecture, and gardens of the Getty Villa in
Malibu. This program is free and open to all Samohi Latin students at any level.
Students and their parents are responsible for their own transportation to and
from Samohi and the Getty Villa as well as all meal expenses.
Most morning sessions will take place in a classroom setting, drilling and
practicing vocabulary and structures. Lunches will take place at various
restaurants, where we will discuss vocabulary related to a variety of ethnic foods.
Afternoon sessions will be ambulatory, visiting numerous places, museum
galleries & gardens, discussing our destinations using pertinent vocabulary. The
first week of the Latin Summer Academy will occur at Samohi, The second week
will be held at the Getty Villa in Malibu.

The Academia Æstiva Latina 2010 is taking place July 19-30th from 10 am-3 pm Monday-
