The Importance of Body Language

Body language can reveal a lot. This kind of language consists of body movements
and facial expressions. They can naturally communicate what people are thinking and
feeling, even when people are not speaking at all.
Eyes wide open, for example, show that a person is surprised. Keeping eye contact
also attracts attention and helps make people interested in what someone is saying.
Smiling is key, too. It transmits positivity. However, be careful: a smile that doesn’t look
natural can transmit the opposite.
Another important aspect is how people use their arms and hands. Hands in pockets
and arms crossed are indicative of resistance or insecurity. In order to transmit
confidence and comfort, the best is to present open arms. When meeting people, a
firm handshake also helps a lot, expressing pleasure.

1. Body language can express both positive and negative feelings. ( )

2. A smile always suggests good feelings. ( )
