Hello learner! Welcome to the exciting world of English 3 for


the Fourth Quarter
In this module, you will be working on different activities that
will develop your communication skills. Developing your
communication skills help you express yourself well in the English
language. To achieve this, you need to acquire knowledge in
grammar particularly on the different parts of speech. This is
necessary in communicating grammatically.
In this module you learn about adverbs. Specifically adverbs
of manner. This module is focused on activities requiring
recognition adverbs of manner.

Specifically, you are expected to accomplish the


following learning task;

1. Define what an adverb of manner is;


2. Associate pictures with the appropriate adverb of manner;
3. Form adverb of manner from the given adjective; and
4. Use adverb of manner in a sentence correctly
Every day, from the moment you woke up in the morning
until the time you decided to sleep at night, you do a lot of
activities at home. These activities involves actions. Is there a way
we can describe actions? Let us discover how we can do it as we
move further in this lesson.

There are words that describe how things are done. In the
previous activity you identified some words that describe the
actions shown in each picture. We call them adverb of manner.
Try answering the following activities to learn more about
adverb of manner.

the underlined words in each sentence.

2. During the Lent, the people pray silently at the church.

Remember These:

Adverbs are words that describes a verb, an adjective, or


another adverb.
Adverb of Manner tell how things are done. They answer
the question “how”. Most adverbs of manner are formed from
adjectives.

quiet quietly

Explore

Adverbs of manner when used in a sentence is easily


recognized. Commonly, adverbs of manners used inflectional
prefix –ly.
