comparison, namely:

1. Positive degree – simply describes persons or things.

Examples:

a. The house is big. b. The rose flower is fragrant. c. Joshua is a bright student.
2. Comparative degree – used when comparing two persons or things.

We add –er at the end of one-syllable adjectives to form a comparative.

Examples:

If the adjective has two or more syllables, we add

more or less before the word to form its
comparative degree.

fragrant – more fragrant

b. smart – smarter Joshua is smarter than Aaron. c. Ilang-ilang flower is more fragrant than rose.
3. Superlative degree – used when comparing three or more persons or things.

We add –est at the end of one-syllable adjectives to form

their superlative

This is the biggest house in this street.

If the adjective has two or more syllables, we
use the words most or least before the word
to form its superlative degree.

This sampaguita is the most fragrant of all the

flowers in the garden.
Jade is the smartest in the class.
