TEST 2 A
Reading
H. Read the letters below about strange travel destinations sent to a travel
magazine, then say if the statements below are T (true) or F (false).

Last year I decided to do something totally different and exciting for my holiday. I love
horse riding and Im a big fan of cowboy films. So Clare (my husbands sister) and I
went to Texas and stayed on a real ranch with real cowboys. Everyday we helped round
up the cattle and move them to fresh fields. As I work at a riding school, I didnt mind
being on horseback seven hours a day. But Clare only goes riding at weekends and was
really exhausted by the end of the day. We had a brilliant time, though!
Louisa, Scotland

Im never happier than when Im in the

great outdoors. As far as Im concerned,
staying in hotels is pretty boring. A couple
of summers ago, I went to Turkey and
stayed in a tree house. Its not the best
place to stay if youre afraid of heights
because you have to climb up a really high
ladder to get to your room. In the morning
it was wonderful looking out the window
and being right up at the top of the tree. I
loved it! This truly is a great place to go if
you are adventurous
and love nature.
Jamie, USA

Before going to university, I took a year off to travel

around the world with a group of friends from secondary
school. We didnt have a lot of money and we were always
trying to find cheap places to stay. You wouldnt believe
some of the places we ended up staying in! One of the best
was a hostel in Canada. They had turned an old prison into
a place to stay but theyd kept it the same as when there
were prisoners there. It was quite basic and each cell had
four people staying in it. All I could think about was all the
people who had been locked up there. I have to say I was
thankful that our cell doors werent locked at night!
Keira, South Africa

e.g. Louisa had never ridden a horse before.
