Election Information 2015-2016
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! We hope everyone had a fun and relaxing summer.
Please find below information regarding the St. Mark Catholic School Council election
process. A nomination form for Council Members and one Community Member is attached.
Completed nomination forms with autobiographies/biography must be returned to the
school no later than noon on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. If you have not received a
notice of receipt of your nomination by Friday September 18, 2015, please contact the school
on
Monday, September 21, 2015.
An election ballot will be sent home with your child on Monday, September 21, 2015 and
must be returned to the school by noon on Wednesday, September 23, 2015.
Who can be nominated? Only parents or guardians of St. Mark students who are not staff at
St. Mark School can run for a parent position on School Council. Parents who are not staff at
St. Mark School but work for the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario may run for
Council, however, must inform voters of this employment. Nominations can only be made with
the consent of the individual being nominated, nominating yourself is permitted.
Who can vote? Only parents or guardians of students of St. Mark Catholic School.
There are nine positions on Council for Parent Members and the majority of members (a
minimum of 5) must be Catholic. The balance will be made up of those with the most votes
after the first five Catholic candidates are chosen. Should there not be enough candidates to
fill the positions, those who submitted their nominations forms by the due date will be
acclaimed and the nomination period will be extended until all nine positions are filled. St.
Mark staff will choose Staff Members to sit on Council. The Community Representative will be
chosen by vote by the new school council.
Council also has a number of committees for which parents/guardians are welcome to
volunteer. A list of these committees will be distributed after the first School Council
meeting on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 6 p.m. All are welcome to attend Council
meetings.
All information regarding the election will be communicated to you as soon as it becomes
available. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact a member of the Election
Committee.
