Welcome to

2015-2016
Open House

Mr. Blais has two children and works another job after school.
He is a Cowboys and Yankees Fan. Mr. Blais enjoys taking his
kids for ice cream and he also likes to go to baseball games. Mr.
Blais is the special education teacher in the classroom and is
with us half of the day.

Miss Gaglione works another job after school. She likes to


travel, go for motorcycle rides, go to concerts and scuba dive.
Miss Gaglione is the full time regular education teacher in the
classroom.

Mrs. Passett has two children and enjoys relaxing by her pool
with her grand-dog Bentley. Mrs. Passett is the paraprofessional
and she is with us the other half of the day.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports

Garden City School has adopted a school wide behavior plan


called Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). This
plan is designed to encourage a positive climate of cooperation,
honesty, academic excellence, respect and safety at Garden City.
PBIS sets clear expectations for student behavior in the
classroom, and in shared areas such as the library, gym,
cafeteria, and the recess yard.

Students earn tickets as


rewards. The tickets are used
once a quarter for raffles.

The class has free time on


Fridays they can earn more
free time and also have it
taken away.

READING

In third grade, reading instruction is at the


individual students level through one-on-one or
small group instruction.

Students are also required to read at least 20


minutes every night.

All students are required to read twenty-five


chapter books during the school year.

Children need to read regularly in order to


improve their comprehension skills and
fluency/reading rate.

WRITING

This year we will be using FACES to help students write and


meet the common core standards.

Third grade strives to incorporate writing across the


curriculum in all subject areas.

Examples: Reports, Special Projects, etc.

Students will be writing friendly letters to there friends in


other classes at Garden City School through the WeeDeliver program.

We will use the six traits writing model and work on the
process of writing including brainstorming, organization,
rough draft, editing, revising, and peer feed back.

Once a week students will be given speed drills, we will begin
with addition and subtraction and then move onto
multiplication and division.
