Welcome to Third Grade

JMS Open House 2015

About Mrs. Maritano

This will be my second year at James Morris School.
I earned my Bachelors Degree from University of Saint Joseph in
West Hartford, where I achieved the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society.
I am working toward my Masters Degree in Curriculum and
Instruction.
I enjoy incorporating a variety of learning styles in the classroom,
such as kinesthetic, tactile, visual, and auditory.

A Day in the Life of a Third Grader

Each day the students participate in:

a morning meeting
math workshop and activities
readers workshop
writers workshop
science and social studies

Our specials are P.E., Makerspace/Library, Wellness,

Art, Music and Spanish.

Classroom Philosophy
I believe that each child is a unique
individual who needs a secure, caring,
and stimulating atmosphere in which
to grow and mature emotionally,
intellectually, physically, and socially.
It is my desire as your childs teacher
to help them meet their fullest
potential in these areas by providing
an environment that is safe, supports
risk-taking, and invites a sharing of
ideas.

The Third Grade Experience

This year the third graders have their own Chromebook
in the classroom. This will allow for student driven
inquiry and research skill building.
Third graders will begin dissection in Science.
We will explore the anatomy of a squid and the
digestive habits of an owl.
