APPLICATION OF THE SECOND LAW OF

THERMODYNAMICS: REFRIGERATION
1. Why this topic has been chosen as the group project?
The topic of the application of the second law of thermodynamics specifically
focussing on the refrigeration was chosen because this application is nearly related to
our daily life. It is really easy to study about the application of 2nd law of
thermodynamics in refrigeration with the refrigerators operation mechanism.
Furthermore we in a group of 5 decided to choose this as our project is because there
lots of references can be gained through the books and internets easily.
2. What is the project is all about?
As we all know from our daily life experience that heat flows in the direction of
decreasing temperature. So we found that the application of the 2nd law of
thermodynamics can be clearly explain through the application of this law in the
refrigeration process. By going through the refrigeration process we could study the
heat flow or heat transfer physically through the physical properties.
3. Where is the application of thermodynamics involved in the application?
As mentioned above the refrigeration process can be portrayed as the application of
the 2nd law of thermodynamics that concerns more on energy transfer. In this
application heat energy is the energy that undergoes the energy transfer or energy
flow.
4. Which type of component related to the project and application?
Basic components of a refrigeration system are:
Compressor
Condenser
Evaporator
Expansion Valve
