The table illustrates the purposes of using information superhighway by gender in
six categories of activities in year 2001 in United Kingdom. Overall, it is clear that females were slightly exceeded that of males in spending time on internet. There were minimal differences regarding banking and commercial activity between male and female. According to the data the smallest group was product vendor activity, which made up 20% of male and female internet users. By contrast, banking activity comprised the second least proportion at about 40%, doubling the figures of the smallest group. Besides that, males were significantly outnumbered females in playing internet games, with a partitioning of slightly under 40% being male and around 20% being female. In the meantime, nearly all internet activity, about 98%, appeared to be dominated by sending email, with a man to woman ratio of 98% to 95%. It is obvious that female overwhelmingly search for medical information (39%) than male (less than 20%). Likewise, 60% of women also interested in involving online commercial, which was a figure much greater than its 39% male counterpart.
