Marine Iguanas
Field Guide

The marine
iguana is found
exclusively in
the Galpagos
Islands. They
obtain their
name because
they hunt and
live close to water. Marine iguanas are mainly
black with some slight variations of red and
green. They have short snouts, spiny crowns
along the head and back, and flat tails that they
use as they swim in the sea. These iguanas feed
on algae and seaweed and can dive down to 12
meters in search of food.
