Chairmans Chat
Hello again
Normally in the October chat I would be talking about our season coming to an end, but this year its not the case as runs will
continue throughout the winter. Weather (permitting) you use
old or new cars we will see the level of interest and decide
whether we keep them in the next events calendar.
September has been a busy month, starting with an excellent
Heritage Run. Thanks to Jonathan and his CAMRA friends for
the route and theme. We pass by so many of these pubs on our
runs without knowing anything about them. Thanks also to Peter & Pam for their work with the run bookings and admin. If you
were on the run and crossed the A1 near Felton you would
have come across a Road Closed sign, this was due to an
accident the day before when a caravan overturned and the
road hadnt been cleared. Just one of the types of things that
can happen to a route planner after doing a recce.
The following weekend saw 13 cars head south for the Dales
Weekend organised by John & Marion Mitchell. Many thanks for
all the work they put in on the run and researching the area.
Despite a wet and grey start it was enjoyed by all. On arriving in
Skipton George, Eileen and I took the canal cruise which included an amusing commentary by Dave Spikey. Sunday was totally different it was a sun day. This made the route on some of
the Dales more remote white roads more enjoyable with great
views. Hold ups by sheep and vintage tractors didnt affect the
run which for many included a stop at the CB Inn and Brymor
Icer Cream parlour, both highly recommended.

After a quick pit stop when I got home it was off to the Silverline
Dementia Cafe where I was joined by Eric & Jackie Turtle and
Nicola Bennett with their Midgets. We each gave a brief talk
about our cars before going outside to show them off to the
group and staff. This generated a lot of interest and seems to
have gone down well. Silverline are soon to be setting up a new
group in Kingston Park and have asked if we will go to that.
I didnt attend the Whitley Bay Car Show but judging from the
pictures in the local press it was a lot bigger but still grey. I
missed Peter's run on 26th as despite leaving home at 12:20 for
the 1:30 start I was still on the Tyne Bridge at 1:40, so I turned
round. Better luck this month!
I met Peter Craigen, who as last years Photo Comp winner is
this years Judge, and gave him a disk with around 550 photos
from 11 members. His decision will be announced at the AGM.
Those who come to Clubnights will know the efforts George
takes to sell remaining calendars in August. This month the
committee agreed that due to the cost to the club and unsold
stock we will not be selling a 2016 calendar. Instead it will be
produced and either be available to download from the website,
to print or use as computer wallpaper, or be issued monthly with
the newsletter updated with the latest events.
And while on the subject of the AGM (Agenda elsewhere in the
newsletter) would you like to join the committee? Are you interested in being Editor? If so please get in touch with Alan for
more details of whats involved.
Best wishes
