March 2002, China openly collect concept design national stadium from all over the world, the
concept of "Bird's Nest" design results together with Architecture Office Herzog & de Meuron
Swiss Institute of Design Development of China and the Company Counsel Engineering, ARUP
last elected through the assessment and selection of frisking experts and mass election through
voting. The design "Bird's Nest" classified system of twisting steel frame structure with a wide
range of great. The design concept shows the structure of the main hall of the all new and shows
the harmony between buildings and structures.
In running the stadium project, looks very much constraint faced, especially those racing against
time and the form of new construction untested own development takes 5 years. Based on the
movie that I watched the extraordinary workers must race against time, not to mention the
casting of the project should be completed before winter arrives, it is avoided for fear of cement
so easy to harden and freeze. This project can be regarded as a project on time in the process,
done every day without stopping by the division of shifts per day for 3 times.
Design used was a completely new and has a difficulty level that is quite complicated. The basic
shape of the Beijing stadium soon is shaped like a bowl with wrapped steel skeletons that
resemble the shape of a bird's nest. Its design also involves many experts from different
countries. Problem / Constraint that arise in terms of the design is the shape of a bird's nest that is
completely new in the construction of the stadium, so as need much more research about the
strength of construction and safety..
The use of special steel used in the construction of a bird's nest is a result of this project. For the
Chinese through the study succeeded in producing steel mill Q460 type of strong and sturdy
enough to support the weight of the building, and must withstand earthquakes thus meeting of
the security aspects and the safety of the Olympic-class safety standards. "Bird's Nest" one of the
largest steel structure buildings in the world and quite complex that has been made.
