Professional Nursing Goals

Amanda Seeds
University of South Florida

In planning my professional future there are short and long term goals that are important
to me. In terms of short term goals, I intend to attain a position as a registered nurse on a
medical/surgical floor and become certified in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS); this will
aid in broadening my knowledge base and sharpening my nursing skills. As for long term goals, I
mean to specialize in postpartum care and commit to lifetime learning. This educational
commitment is pertinent in my being able to provide the best care for my patients.
Short term goals

By midyear of 2016 I intend to attain a position on a medical surgical floor as a registered

nurse, as evidenced by employment at a qualified hospital and earning my state licensure.
I will become ACLS certified by 2017; this will be made evident by my completion of
ACLS coursework from an accredited body and receipt of the appropriate certificate.

Long terms goals

By 2020 I will be specialized in postpartum care, as evidenced by completion of a

postpartum internship and hire on a postpartum floor with acceptable reviews by a
supervising body.
I will continue my education throughout my career/commit to lifelong learning which can
be viewed in 2021 and each year thereafter; this will be evident by my participation in
earning continuing education credits for licensure and attending available courses through
my place of employment.
