    Contemporary Issues in Graphic Design!


    Rachele Riley

    - does it all (has research grants)!


    - loves maps!
    - hard to say where relevancy starts and stops!
    - books, signage, cover of magazines, exhibitions!
    - even the most mundane is graphic design!
    - ranges around political, consumerism, etc (not all company logos)!
    - doesn't have to be serious, can bring in humor!
    - logos are important, but not everything. Logos are symbols, idea expression,
    emotional expression, social, consumerism!

    - designers are designing platforms where viewers can add content and change form!
    - designing systems (new issues, old problems)!
    - graphic design isn't neutral (designers put their emotions into the design too)!
    - quote "Design is a form of justice between men, women, and material. . . design is
    about relationships. Alvin Lustig!

    - making the invisible visible, deals with effect on people , informing people!
    - Nevada nuclear test site (violence, visually arresting, mysterious)!
