SUGAR CALAVERITA

HISTORY
The Mesoamerican altar was adorned with skulls, which were of those who had been slaughtered in
honor of the gods.
With the arrival and conquest of the Spaniards, as Mesoamerican rituals they went against the
mandates of the Catholic religion , had to be replaced by others , one of which sugar calaveritas .
Tourists are surprised to see sugar skulls and they will cause a little fear.
INGREDIENTS

1 tablespoon corn syrup.


1/2 teaspoon vanilla.
1 egg white.
2 cups powdered sugar.
5 tablespoons of cornstarch.
Edible vegetable colors
A balloon whisk.
A very fine strainer holes.
1 glass or plastic bowl.
A fine brush.
A plastic container with a lid (take care to close well).

PROCEDURE
- In the bowl mix honey, vanilla and egg, stirring gently with a whisk.
- Spend the icing sugar through a sieve and place it on the mixture, mix everything again and knead
into a ball.
- In a table or flat, clean surface, sprinkle some cornstarch and roll out the dough until smooth and
manageable (as mass for tortillas).
- With little skulls form the dough and let it dry on the table for three hours.
- Dissolves vegetable colors separately and now with the help of brush decorate your calaverita.
- When your calaverita are already completely dry, put them in the plastic container. Keep them in a
cool dry place, like a cupboard in your home.
