Active Inspire Presentation


(Computer Smart)
Create an art history flipchart using Active Inspire. Choose an artist, your favorite work of art by
the artist, and write two paragraphs describing the art and artist. Use MLA formatting and
remember to have a Works Cited page listing all resources. When finished, you will create a
button on your home page and link your notes and artwork to the button. Label the button with
the full name of the artist.
Extra Credit Option: Present your Flipchart to the class.

b. How did this artist become interested in art? Started painting black shadows on
walls above and below objects. Eventually started painting people and mastered the
technique.
c. How did this artist get started? Never painted on canvas, only on 3-d objects
because she was never taught how to pant on canvas
d. Self-taught or formal education in art? Self- Taught, graduated from Vassar College
in Poughkeepsie, NY in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in political science.
e. Was the artist accepted as an artist during his/her lifetime? Yes, became a
professional artist in 2009
f. _She _likes painting total strangers because she gets to know them in those hours
she paints them
g. __She likes the idea that her work will be destroyed immediately after completion

a. Materials used?
Acrylic paint, camera never uses photo shop or doctors the
photos
b. What subjects did your artist focus on? (seascapes, western theme,
portraits/people, flowers, variety)
i. She started out painting and photographing people and primarily focuses on
painting people. She also does some still-life food and live shows where she
paints a subject in front of an audience.
c. How does this work of art make you feel?
i. The artist makes me fascinated by how she has found a way of making the
person appear 2-D. I would have never thought this was a live person unless
someone informed me.
d. If you were the artist, how would you have made this? What different materials and
processes would you use?
i. If I were the artist I would have painted my subject with different colors of
paint and made the subject appear two-dimensional. I would then take
pictures of the subject at different angles and in different poses. If I were
doing this, I would use
e. Does anything you see in this work of art remind you of something else you have
seen or experienced?
i. The neutral colors and the solemnness of the subject reminds me of sadness
and solitude.
f. What is this work of art about? Is there a message that goes beyond the subject
matter?
i. This work is a woman alone in a room with an empty wine bottle and glass.
The picture is conveying the sadness and solitude of the woman by her
expression, clothes, and the objects.

g. What is the title of this artwork? How does the artwork relate to the title? If you
could rename the artwork, what would your new title be?
i. The name of the artwork is Natura Morta. This is usually associated with still
life. In this case, the woman in the picture is alive but captured in the
moment by a camera and appears still.
h. How does this work of art relate to you?
i. Everyone endures solitude and I can relate to the sadness that can
accompany solitude.
