A letter from the Executive Director and

Projects Coordinator

THE TEAM

This past March we had internal changes at the Cabo Pulmo

Learning Center (CPLC). Judith Castro Lucero took the opportunity to lead ACCP and Ariana Desales came to take the position of Executive Director of the Learning Center. Along with
Gabriela Castro (Projects Coordinator), we are working to provide a space for the children, the local and international community, and different organizations to meet and connect with
each other.
Officially, since May, CPLC has local and international board
members from the community who will help and guide Gaby
and Ary to take the Center to the next level. Daniel Weinstein
(our funder) has been very supportive with this new transition;
helping, guiding, founding and cheering us with some challenges that weve been facing.
One of our goals has been to make sure the community receives news about the CPLC and we will be publishing the gazette every two months.
In this edition we share with you our adventures from February to June. We are very grateful to the parents who support
us in this transition, especially to Dulce Acua and Juan Castro for lending their house to us for many of the activities.

MARCH...
Saving Stoves
The community of Cabo Pulmo and Niparaja A.C.
worked together to construct saving stoves for
the inhabitants of Pulmo and we had the opportunity to take the children to learn and assist the
mason with the construction of the Palapas
restaurant stove.

PECIAL THANKS TO ngeles Castro and Antonio Quintana who generously gave us the

opportunity to assist on the construction of their

stove.

Spring festival
We received the spring with beautiful queens and a funny parade full of color, music and smiles everywhere. We had a lot
fun too preparing all the decorations with the children and
fortunately with the help of the mothers. THANK YOU!

APRIL ...
Desserts day
This day we prepared delicious muffins.
We made two teams, the banana muffin
team and the carrot with pineapple
muffin team. Both teams gave their best
to learn how to cook soft and sponge
muffs and, of course, we enjoyed them
with cold milkmmm Yummy!

Social emotional management workshop.

Volunteer psychologist Roberto Montao gave
this helpful workshop to the adult local community. He taught us different ways to solve
and manage some of our daily problems with
family, friends and neighbors.

To the WaterSHARKYS
With summer arriving, we had to receive it properly,
giving our bodies a chance to enjoy theSEA! Also this
was the perfect excuse to practice kayak and SUP
(Stand Up Paddle) skills. Congratulations to Ronald and
Luis who successfully conquer the SUP; and congrats to
Irving too, who seems master the kayak. Auush!

Regional Birds
Identification
Workshop
Given the exquisite diversity

and

abundance

of

birds in Cabo Pulmo, Sofa

parted to the community a
bird identification workshop. We learned about
the birds evolution, the
importance of respecting
their nesting areas, and
how to identify birds from
their songs, flight and
colors. Thank you Sofa!

JUNE...

Happy Birthday!
From now and then, every month, we are going to celebrate the birthday of the children.
This time we were celebrating the children of
May (actually, from January to May). We had
cold cake (made by Gaby, THANK YOU!) and
hot dogs. We want to thank to Dulce and Martina to share this special moment with us.

Finding the Treasure

This time we remembered what weve learned
about our regional flora and also practiced how
to locate the North, South, East and West. Honestly, we were amazed how fast the children got
it. Congratulations to Perlita! She didnt stop
until she found the treasure.

JUNE...
Storyteller Mr. Juan Castro
Felix Ortega -one of the main
characters in the Mexican Revolution- took part in the history of Cabo Pulmo, said Mr. Juan
Castro; one of the oldest people of the community. On this
occasion Mr. Juan gave us the
opportunity to listen to the adventurous and risky moments
he went through when he was
a child. The children were listening carefully, they didnt
want to miss any single detail!

Toys Contest with Recycled Items

As part of the activities of the celebration of the Cabo Pulmo National Park anniversary, the children made toys with
recycled items. THE WINNERS WERE: Irving won the first and
second place with the TRON and the rattle snake. Perla and
Sinah won the third place with their casitas. We THANK
THE PARENTS FOR THEIR COLLABORATION AND PARTICIPATION.

INFO
At the request of the English-speaking Cabo Pulmo
residents, for a small fee, Ary began teaching Spanish lessons at the CPLC. Due to popular demand,
the class began meeting three times per week. Ary
and Gaby were able to use the money from the
classes to directly support the activities of the
CPLC.

The program continued through June and

will resume in the fall.
