To Keep or To Eat? That is the Question!

In the world of wedding receptions, some couples are putting away the
traditional keepsake wedding favors. Gone
are the days of tea light candle holders
with the anniversary dates engraved on
the side. Now a new wave of immediately
gratifying wedding favors are sweeping the
scene.; edible keepsakes are the new it
movement in wedding receptions.
Some wedding guests will be nostalgic and want to remember the day of your
wedding for years to come. For those people, a
candle holder or a glass may suffice. On the
other hand, some guest would rather not clutter their homes with scentless candles or more
dishware in their cabinets and will like an edible wedding favor instead.
If planning to give out a traWhichever [favor] you choose to do,

that is unique and captures the
essence of the ceremony and reception. If you are planning a wedding on the beach,
a small container of sand with the bride and grooms initials and the wedding date
on the bottle will be a unique way for guests to remember the wedding.
Or, if you are deciding to go down the edible wedding favor route, a bag of
M&MS or cake pops coated in the wedding colors go a long way. Edible wedding
favors are both unique and delicious. A perfect combination for you guests to enjoy.
When planning the favors to distribute to guests during the reception keep in
mind two things: Would I want to keep this in my home for the years to come? And
Would I rather have something that will grant me instant satisfaction?

First Nonprofit Event with SpeakOut International

For people to
come to an
event I
planned and
feel good when
they leave,
makes me
know that I did
my job.Gwendolyn
DeShields

Recently, Gwendolyn Deshields, CEO of SocialFly Events has agreed

to coordinate an event for colleague Shonta Thomas. Thomas is
launching her nonprofit organization, SpeakOut International.
SpeakOut International is an organization that aims to empower
victims of sexual abuse, and maybe even get the courage to forgive
their aggressor.
Thomas has realized that the epidemic of sexual abuse victims who
do not talk about their abusive past often harbor those emotions and
may become aggressive toward their loved ones. In order to stop
the cycle of abuse (verbal, physical, and sexual) she believes that
one should confront the events of their past. By doing so, one should
be able to live a happier and fuller life.
Gwendolyn DeShields decided to join SpeakOut International as
the Event Director because she believes in the mission of her close
friend, Shonta Thomas. To see women come to an event and feel
good when they leave makes me know that I did my job. The fact
that SpeakOut Internationals main goal is to make sexual abuse
victims feel as though they can overcome the abuse in their past
make DeShields feel even more confident in her career choice.
SpeakOut Internationals first event will be on February 23, 2013.

You can also use a paint chips to make art for your home or office.

Employee Spotlight: Shaylynn Thomas-Baisden

In 2009, Shaylynn ThomasBaisden just decided to assist
a friend prepare a venue for
a wedding reception. What
started as a kind hearted
gesture developed into being
a key ingredient for most of
the events that are planned
by SocialFly Events.
Interviewer: So Shaylynn,
can you tell me about why
you started working with
SocialFly?
Shaylynn (STB): Gwendo-

lyn was my mentor, and she

needed help setting up a
venue for a surprise party
and I decided to help her
out with whatever she needed.
Interviewer: What are
some of your duties when
working with SocialFly?
STB: I used to just set up
the tables and help carry
centerpieces. Now I pin boutonnieres on groomsmen
and know the wedding party

is paying attention during

rehearsals. Its a lot of work
but a lot of fun.
Interviewer: Whats your
favorite part of working with
SocialFly Events?
STB: I like it all. I like seeing
a wedding come to life and
the look on the brides face
as she sees her venue. I like
working and helping Gwen.
Its just a lot of fun.

How to Deal with a Bridezilla

Being in the wedding and
reception planning , SocialFly Events has encountered a number of
bride and groomzillas.
But what do you do when
your client does not let
you do your job as their
wedding coordinator?
In order to remind your
client about why they
hired a wedding coordinator in the first place.
Tell him or her that you

are here to handle all the

small details of their
event and alleviate any
stress that they might
encounter.
If the bride or groom
does not respond to that
tactic, appeasement will
go a long way. In the end,
it is important to know
that there is not going to
be a good event if any
client does not get their
way during the planning

process.
In the end, a happy
client during the
planning process
makes for a better
event.

Bridezillas can be a nightmare
