Consumers are reporting an

receiving even after registering
their phones (land lines and
cells) on the Do Not Call List.

Mississippi, as partof its Identity
Theft Prevention Program, offers
the following information regard-
ing the national Do Not Call
Registry.
The Federal Trade
Commission (FTC) reports that
there are some loopholes to the
Do Not Call List which allow such
calls to bypass the restrictions.
These include:
By making a purchase from
a company, a business relation-
ship is established which allows
the company to circumvent the
Do Not Call List.
This relationship allows con-
tinued contact from the company
for up to 18 months after the last
purchase, delivery or payment
date.
A business relationship is
also created with a company if
there is any inquiry or application
made to it. This type of rekition-
ship exists for three months, and
the company can call you with-
out penalty during that period of
time even if you request them to
cease their calls.
A phone number can be regis-
tered on the national Do Not Call
Registry online at www.donot-
call.gov or by calling 888-382-
1222. For more information,
contact the FTC at 877-382-
