Bioremediation Flow
Teams running case:
Harrill/Rowlett

Definitions:
Bioremediation: Use of living organisms to clean up spills in soil, water, or wastewater.
Goal: More Efficient Clean-up of Environment
Criteria: Increased Protection of the Environment
Inherency: LUST Funding Backlog
-101,000 UST Sites Have Yet to be Cleaned
Mandate 1: Require RCRA to Use Bioremediation For Cleaning USTs
Mandate 2: Increase LUST Funding
Advantage 1: UST Leaks Cleaned Efficiently
Advantage 2: Cleaner Water
Cross-Examination:
-How new is this technology?
-How much will it cost to clean one UST site using bioremediation?
-How many jobs will be created or lost?
-Why not just repair the USTs?
Arguments:
-DA: Tax Increase – Increasing taxes is the most common method the government uses to make up
for backlog in any projects funding.
-DA: Unconstitutional – Violates the constitution(I forget how).
-If this is such a good idea, why does Aff need to force this plan on us? Sure they have plan advocates
such as the EPA, but do they endorse the use of bioremediation on every single spill?
-Significance Topicality(Caution: Most people in region 6 have no idea what this is, even though it's
so basic)
